Pi-Day pen purchases

Misfit

Recommended Posts

I just filled my Pi Day pen from last year from a sample of Van Dieman’s Leatherwood Honey Amber. It was suggested last year as a match to the Pelikan M200 Cognac with B nib that is my Pi Day pen.

Maybe we need an Ides of March thread about buying pens to either represent Caesar or the conspirators.  Or Shakespeare.

No Pi-Day purchases for me, other than some groceries.

But I just realized that this is a busy week.  Yesterday was Pi-Day; today is the Ides of March (the joke of course being that technically that's just the Roman calendar version of "March 15"); tomorrow night is pen club; and Friday is St. Patrick's Day (and I'm going to have to check on the Pittsburgh celebrations parade route to get to an estate sale company's warehouse sale, before checking out the early day of an estate sale in the next county).  And then this weekend?  At least for me it's "Estate Sale Saturday!"

Oh, and probably today I need to make up a batch of marzipan....  Not sure how my back is going to like that, after slipping on the ice yesterday morning on the slope part of my driveway, getting the trash and recycling bin down to the curb.... But I've promised to make stuff for something next weekend, up in the Buffalo, NY area.  And have to get it to someone before a week from Friday to send up to the event with her.  (Then of course I have to make MORE for something in a couple of weeks, but that I'll be able to get to....)

As Pi Day transited into Ides of March I purchased..not a pen, but a saucepan!

I have been eager to rid myself of two old non-stick coated pans for months so I bought a 30cm Stainless steel replacement.

I hope this amuses my FPN friends but I also bought a 'Disc Golf' starter (x3) pack!

A 'Drive' disc, an 'Approach' disc and a 'Putt' disc!

My yard includes adjoining orchard land with lots of 'hail netting' so it's gonna be fun!

I have wanted to try this since watching a tournament on Finnish, "AlfaTV" and now discover there are dozens of courses around the country!

One or two of them located in inner city parks where I once played Golf with an old mate many years ago!

  • 11 months later...

It’s one day less than a week to March 14, or Pi Day for those who write the date 3-14.

I’ve been wanting the TWSBI Eco in Dark Sapphire, and the Kaweco Collection Apricot. One of those could be my Pi Day pen purchase. Plus having a pie, which is kind of where Pi Day got turned into pie day, and gave me leave to turn it into a pen buying day.

Just for fun, I turned my iPhone to landscape, found the Pi symbol, and got a screenshot.

I ended up getting the Kaweco Collection Apricot pen with BB nib, and a Clairefontaine Neo Deco Constellation notebook for the Pi-Day pen. No pie, pizza or sweet version this year. There were two Pi-Day offers from Pizza Hut and Papa Murphy’s. But it was not a day to get pizza, though I’d gladly have eaten it.

I should have gotten something, but I did not. Too bad. May be next year....

No point ordering anything here cos there's yet another transport outage coming into the state. Flooding.

How long will it be this time? Anything that was already on it's way is stuck (they call it delayed by 2 or 3 days...). Could be weeks. Or months.

Or in the case of one package: never. (Presumably destroyed in a derailment in January.) No one is saying. It just never arrived.

Irritable? Definitely.

Will work for pens...

@RedPie as A Smug Dill suggested, today is the Ides of March.  So you could get a pen for that. Not as cool as Pi-Day though, in my opinion.

@AmandaW I’m sorry to read about flooding affecting package deliveries. Your part of the world is getting slammed with fire and flood. I noticed Atlas Stationers in Chicago now has a fee you can pay that helps when a package does not arrive. It’s the first time I’ve seen something like that.

Nothing for Pi Day this year either.  But today (the Ides of March) I ordered some ink  (including 3 bottles of Namiki Black -- that should keep my husband busy for a while B) and a Con-B converter (for the freebie Plumix from the talk on the history of Pilot Vanishing Points at B/W 2024) from Vanness.  And the Parker Vector "Electra" came in the mail.  I think it may be NOS -- the date code suggests a date code of 3rd quarter of 1990, and actually came in a box -- along with a cartridge of what seems to be partly evaporated Quink Washable Blue (which wouldn't have been my first choice, but oh well...).

Right now the pen is draining, nib down, in paper toweling (I had to "borrow" a converter from another Vector, because unfortunately Vanness was out of stock of some things I want, including a Parker twist converter).

Did go to my local pen club meeting last night, but I was sort of off my feed most of the day, and ended up eating a small scoop of chocolate ice cream (garnished with a wedge from a waffle cone) for dinner, washed down with ginger ale.  There was a pizza place next to the ice cream place, but apparently they don't serve slices at night....
