postcards out to Okami & tr3n1ty. Might take some time to arrive cos post offices will be closed next week. End of the Muslim fasting month over here and they normally take about a week off.

Sending out a card to Pauldavid tomorrow.

I'm really enjoying the exchange. Again, sorry for my sloppy handwriting. I'm trying to relearn nice handwriting, I promise.

Card received from jazztonight. Thanks Robert. It got through USPS and RM equipment with only a couple of minor scuffs, probably from belts, rollers or a destacker from the looks of it. Photo untouched. Well done - keep up the good work.

Now I am sure that I shall give you all a laugh Stateside: Who is/was Julia Child and why is her kitchen in the Smithsonian? Apologies for my ignorance.

Hi Den,

Glad you got the "Julia Child Kitchen at the Smithsonian" photo postcard! Here is the wikipedia link to Julia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julia_child

She was ubiquitous throughout the 1960s and beyond as a result of her landmark cookbook, "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Americans saw her on TV all the time--she had the first (or one of the first) TV cooking shows ("The French Chef"). Both she and her show were very popular.

Here is a youtube of Julia herself:

http://www.wikio.com/video/1465030

Her personality was infectious, and lent itself to parodies--here is a link to Dan Akroyd on Saturday Night Live: http://www.hulu.com/watch/3523/saturday-night-live-the-french-chef

My wife is a good cook and tells me she watched Julia Child's TV show religiously. The movie (it was first a book) "Julie and Julia" has been very popular, and I won't be surprised if Meryl Streep wins an Oscar for her portrayal of Child.

I guess you might say Child was an American icon. In the movie, the Julie character visits the Smithsonian exhibit. I liked the movie a lot, and you might enjoy it too. Then again, I am easily entertained. B)

Best regards,

Robert/jazztonight

I did get 6 cards off in the mail last night, but I didn't keep a list of to whom. So, you know who you are when the card arrives. I am still in R&D mode for some home brewed photo post cards. Please bear with me and I will get them right soon. /Craig

This week I received 2 cards from:

Vicki: I don't know if this is Victoria Hills a.k.a. hennypenny?? THis is a picture of the Washington DC skyline. If this is you hennypenny, thanks for the card? Are you a lefty? If this is not, please identify who are you..

jleeper: Thanks for your Dallas card. Yeah, most of my pen/ink combo DOESN'T postcard paper, they're too smooth which makes the ink very runny and fadey. Are you a Chinese pen fan? :-)

I hate to do this, but hgas anyone received a card from me in the last week?

The voice of this guitar of mine, at the awakening of the morning, wants to sing its joy;

I sing to your volcanoes, to your meadows and flowers, that are like mementos of the greatest of my loves;

If I am to die away from you, may they say I am sleeping, and bring me back home.

Not yet. Still checking the mailbox in hope :)

(Delivery times lately seem to be annoyingly random for length of time in transit, even from close locales.)

Yes, Vicki = Hennypenny. Sorry I forgot to put HP on it, but I'm also doing some Postcrossing cards, and I forget which is which sometimes. No, I'm not a lefty - but I sometimes have a loopy backslant that looks like a lefty's. Glad you got the card! HP

Craig, beautiful and very tastefully done. In an earlier post, I mentioned my wife suggested I do the same; however, it would have been a simple cork board. Quite honestly, I'm going to borrow your idea to finish mine (frame it).
