Postcard Swap

Advanced Search results are overwhelming. If asked/answered many times, I apologize. If question is ludicrous, you may whisper among yourselves, wondering how a member cannot comprehend a simple concept.

I realize that 2 members may have a regular routine of exchanging postcards with each other, but generally, are postcards just exchanged once with any participating member? Ex: I'm in US, someone's in Australia... we exchange a postcard of our areas and move on?

A postcard to/from would be fabulous. Multiple postcards from me to Australian could become boring unless member planned to move to my area and really needed to see as much as possible before relocating.

I've always assumed 1 postcard to/from but thought I'd ask.

There is no consensus of opinion as to whether we swap once or multiple times. I think it is trial and error. If you sent and don't receive a reply, just let it be. And if you get a reply and you feel the need to respond you should do so.

Postcards need not be the typical touristy ones, they can represent anything, be it a piece of art or just a place of interest.

Happy swapping

Spot on orangesam. I have exchanged multiples with quite a few folk here and others just once. I'm not offended if I don't get a reply - it just means that person wanted a once only exchange. There are really no rules. It is just about how it works for you. One of the challenges is finding cards that offer something different. I am always on the lookout now and find them in the most unexpected places. So just make your own rules as you go. I just love the opportunity to use my pens, find the write nib/ink combo and keep them travelling around the world.

Interesting. Today I received a post card that was a bit different from the usual fare. It was a blank card on which the sender had written a nice verse (poem) in a beautiful hand with an attractive cursive italic nib and black ink. No photo, just words. Refreshing. /Craig

Hi everyone,

On Friday i received an envelope from another FPN'r and didn't notice until later that the stamps were missing. It appears that someone in the Canada Post Office is a collector. Made me curious as to whether anyone has had that happen to postcards they received?

Regards,

I know Canada Post has some post cards that include postage to anywhere in the world. These don't have a stamp per se - just a printed emblem in the corner (IIRC it looks sort of stamp-ish). Some very nice cards, and I use them because they are about 4 cents more than the cost of just international postage. (They also may just have forgotten, and been lucky about having it delivered sans postage. I've almost dropped several in the mail having forgotten not all had postage affixed).

Same here in Australia - the postal service produces a range of cards for each state and territory inclusive of postage anywhere in the world. They are hard to find with most post offices only having a few on sale. I actually ordered in 50 from their catalogue and the price makes them very attractive. I think they are $1.60 with $1.40 being the usual postage so you are effectively buying a nice quality postcard for 20c.

Received two cards today:

  • hannaahl: the dip pen is dipping very consistently, is it? However I'd like to have a try on it, but they appear to be scarcer than FPs.. Surahammar must be an ancient town?
  • ibz: wow, you've been in KL for 4 times? How exactly small is Wells? Population-wise...is your Boheme medium?

Thanks Hanna and Ibai! Hope you get my card soon...

Hello guys,

I will opt out of the postcard exchange program for now. :o I realized today after sending two that stamps would cost more than a dollar and that's just the stamp without counting the postcard itself. So imagine if I will send more.

Guess where that line is from?
