Hi everyone. More than 30 cards out over the last two weeks. I think I'm obsessed. Thanks to everyone who keep on sending back - appreciate the time you take to send your cards. I just happened upon some souvenir cards from the 2006 Commonwealth Games held here in Melbourne so some of you will see them soon.

Your card left Australia almost a week ago - should have it any day now.

Hi, I'm rather new to FPN, and completely new to the postcard exchange, but I'd be happy to exchange postcards with anyone. I'm in Dallas, Texas.

AND

one unknown!

No senders name, no return address, no text, just my address - I can gather from the postmark it has come from San Francisco & the card has 'LUXOGRAPHY' on the front & the printed text on reverse states it is a card from the Gallery at Art Explosion, 2425 17th Street, San Francisco

Yep, you correctly surmised that was me. Sadly, the cards I got printed are horribly FP-unfriendly, so I've had to resort to writing addresses on address labels. Doesn't give me much room for corresponding. My name is on the card though! It's just not my handle. Whoops. Sorry about that.

I'm continuing in my quest to make my own cards from photos I've taken (hope you don't mind). It's a matter of figuring out the most decent paper and getting the software to work. (iPhoto is pain in the butt for this purpose; I'm using a software program for the Mac called Sophie's Cards that I've found very nice for greeting cards. It's the paper that is presenting more of a challenge, but I'm working on it.)

That's a great idea. Then you can print what you need rather than being locked into a minimum run with a print shop.

Could you let us know the papers you try and problems or successes. That may save some of us from experimenting with paper you have already rejected.

Art supply stores carry a wide range of paper with varied finishes (hot pressed/smooth to cold pressed/rough), thicknesses and tones. They are often available in single sheets or even sample pads having a variety of types of paper stock.

Our mid-range Canon printer has handled 70 to 90 pound hot pressed paper without issues. Importantly, it passes letter size paper straight through. If it had to bend back around a roller to emerge from the same side it entered there could be problems.

For what it's worth,

Today in my mailbox I found not one, not two, but THREE postcards from FPNers in three different countries!

Spotted_and_speckled sent a nice beach-view postcard with Caran d'Ache Blue Sky writing on the reverse side! Nice match!

steven6883 wrote all the way from the UK in a custom-mix ink that's much like my own signature ink, but less bright and with wonderful shading effects! I might ask for the recipe!

Last but not least, pmorin sent a card written in PR Avacado and Noodler's Widowmaker with 0.5mm cursive italic, and a seal! Sadly, it looks like a handling machine took off a corner of the seal, but it's otherwise intact and makes a great surprise on a postcard.

These are all from people who got a postcard from me, but I didn't write any personal messages on my event postcard (because of the aforementioned FP-unfriendly stock) so I feel like I've gotten so much more than I sent.

So nice to get cards like this, and fun to see the stamps from other countries! Wonderful! Thank you!

The one you sent me, (great wall of china) came through great, if that was a home printed card..

Please do let us know what works and what doesn't for paper.... :happyberet: I've gotten a couple home prints lately that are on avery stock IIRC, and they all have a delamination like mangle on them, centered lengthwise on one end(feeding problem into a sorting machine I bet).

Hi all, seems like all the cards everyone sent arrived arrived on Saturday. Once again just beautiful, interesting cards. If my correspondents haven't noticed, I'm consistent in getting cards in the mail within a day or two of your card's arrival.

I'm still fairly new to the PC exchange: Of the 30 people I've written, I'd say that I exchange cards with 10 or so folks regularly. The others were a "one time" request and have dropped-off (or have found my card's so 'vanilla' they've moved-on to more interesting swap participants). :roflmho:

On a different note, I sincerely appreciate that you have noticed my interested in nautical/sea, architecture, and (local/regional) history/scenery -- either that or I'm just lucky. If you can't be there, it is fun to visually travel from a picture and read of the general goings-on in our lives.

Thank you for taking me in. Happy day to all.

Paul

Sent 20 cards yesterday (saturday). Among them, some beautiful sights. Among the recipientes are pmorin (3), inlypete, merzig, penhorse, eilu, a bunch of other canadian members (am I the only one who has noticed a huge amount of Canadians in this thread?), two or three british members, Hari, etc.

This place seems to have some postcard paper that some people really like; Red River Paper. I haven't used them yet, but plan to in the next couple of weeks.

Do you know how their papers handle fountain pen ink? I realize that you haven't used them yet, but do you know of anyone who has and did they use their cards with fountain pens? Thanks for any info. /Craig

Very good question. I don't know right now. I'm going to call, they have more than one type of paper. They are in Dallas, I may see if I can pick some up or maybe take a look before I buy.

I will contact them tomorrow and request samples. If I get some, I will post my findings in the appropriate forum. Sorry, I hope I didn't get us too far afield here. /Craig
