Received two cards today, one from CraigR and the other from PaulK. Both with brown ink, a first! Get to compare Havana with Noodler's Brown. Paul what pen did you use?

Sent out one to Rolard today.

Conway Stewart (modern) Dandy, fine nib. I was surprised by how the brown seemed to turn so much darker on the card as it dried. Obviously the paper had much to do with it.

I am happy to use any of my inks on a postcard if anyone wants a writing sample. All my inks are listed on my profile page.

Another bittersweet story: my grandfather just passed away. He was very dear to me (and I wrote a lot about him on my blog before he died, because he had a great old stamp collection that he gave to me) but I did get to sort through his house and take some postal memorabilia. That included a ton of really old postcards... and when I say really old, I mean the used ones were postmarked 1906-1912. There are unused ones that look to be from the same era, and also fun unused postcards all the way through the 1970s. I gather sometime in the 1908 range you could get your own photos made into postcards? That's what some of these look like. I don't know if they're relatives or not, no one recognized the people in the photos and there was no writing, but they're incredible mementos. To pay homage to my grandfather (who worked for the post office for 40 years and loved mail as much as I do) I'll probably send them.

Anyway, don't know too many folks on this thread, just thought I'd share my postcard story with postcard aficionados. Sometime I'm sure I'll post some photos of them on my blog, but who knows when...

Thanks for sharing that story and my condolences on the loss of your grandfather.

I somehow don't think in years to come there will be threads like this talking about finding my dear departed grandfathers emails. There is something about the written word and the tools used that make them very unique. I hadn't even thought about postcards unless I was on holidays but this swap thread has me fired up and always on the look out for different postcards now.

GreenVelvet - hope the happy memories are some comfort at this time.

Wonderful cards received from Hari317 & hookem11. Thank you so very much!

What's pretty neat is that I'm not seeing much in the way of smudging or the writing being rendered illegible by handling.

I want to thank all of you who swap cards with me. With my memory, it wouldn't be fair to omit anyone by listing each of you. But be assured that I appreciate it very much. I can tell by your cards that the feeling is mutual!

I'll be gathering more vintage cards to send. See you in the post box!

Hi

I have a bunch of penpals and I thought of signing up for the postcard swap. I admit I have not read all 108 pages. Although from what I read it seems to have morphed slightly. It seems to be a constant exchanges of cards between people. lmk if I am way off base.

If anyone wants to exchange postcards lmk

Email me for an updated list of ink for trade or if you want to exchange letters

Just sent to jazztonight, and spotted and speckled(that second one a little late actually, Sorry. )

And realized that I hadn't actually posted in this thread, just jumped into swaps...

So,

If anyone wants to swap for a touristy Alaska card, shoot me a PM! :happyberet:

You might even get a custom local scenic photo card... I figure this is a great use for some pics I've been taking for a few years... I I can get the printing figured out, that is. ;)

Cards sent out to:

Inkypete

gingin

Firefyter-Emt

Red Dwarf

Okami

a few days ago. Do keep me inform when you receive my cards. I used a typical Faber Castell ink and am afraid if the writing will smudge in the mail. Please inform me if you receive smudged cards. Thanks

More cards to be sent out in the coming days. Watch this space!

I've exchanged postcards with many people here, and it's been fun. Several of you have even sent me multiple postcards, but I haven't always sent one back, or even acknowledged that it arrived. I'd like to apologize for this behaviour. Your postcards have been much appreciated.

Postcards in the mail to FredRydr and AlaskanWriter.

My wife and I walked around the Old Market area of downtown Omaha, picked up some nice vintage cards (and "killed" an antique lamp... :headsmack: ). Interesting how I could find the most unique cards from all over the world but I needed to obtain a second mortgage on my home to purchase a vintage local card.

Have a wonderful Sunday,

Paul
