I've been getting a little more postcard-y in these warm summer months.

I don't know if I can handle more mail, so I might not be ready to jump into this postcard swap officially yet, BUT --

I just had to share that Chronicle Books has a really great sale going on now, but you need the promo code FRIENDS. Their postcard boxes are really excellent.

I put some more info on my blog.

And I just spent way too much money on postcards there.

Thanks! I normally use (for blues) either Diamine Sapphire Blue or Watermans Florida Blue. If the ink was more "purplish", it is the Diamine.

My best,

Cards received yesterday from beautysmuse and Celeste.

Thank you both for the beautiful cards. Celeste, I like the PR Orange Crush too.

Beautysmuse, should you find yourself in the Austin area, be prepared for the

heat. 22 of the past 25 days have been over 100 degrees. 8 of those have

been record highs. The weatherman says there is no end in sight.

On July 26, 1775, the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, adopted the recommendation by a committee (chaired by Ben Franklin) that "...a Postmaster General be appointed for the United States, who shall hold his office at Philadelphia, and shall be allowed a salary of 1,000 dollars per annum...", and made Franklin that first Postmaster General.

Happy birthday, U.S. snail-mail!

-- Brian

(P.S. Ten years earlier Mrs. Franklin, writing to her husband who was then in England, mentioned that "The Southern mail has not come in, nor has the Virginia mail, for more than two months." Ever have that feeling?)

Inkypete, thank you for your card. You got the same impression about the Madonna card than me when I saw it. What ink did you use? Half of the writing, including the address, was almost entirely washed (?) away, but readable still. Card hadn't suffered any damage though. I just thought I'd let you know if you're using that ink on a "rainy" postal day.

Those vintage cards sure are keepers. ;)

Received cards this weekend from Jesse and Hookem11 (and a local insurance salesman, but that doesn't count). I mailed cards today to:

Jesse

Hookem11

Raiche58

PaulK

I've written an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of my postcard friends, their addressses and the dates cards are sent and received. It helps me keep track. If you can name a range and create a hyperlink in Excel, I'd be happy to send you a copy.

Enjoy! Steve C

Wow! I just use a cahier and handwrite all that info (an excuse to use my FP's). Anyone who wishes to get either a homemade, or a local LA LA land Post card drop me a PM and we will exchange addresses.

Next round... In-bound today:

A wonderful card from sdcurow, great ink color Steve! PS: we are going on 18 years on Aug 17th. (Been "together" for 21 though... High School Sweethearts. :-)

Then a sweet looking card from Okami. (I explained my pen snobbery and user name in my card back)

And lastly, one from Penhorse87 penned in a wonderful color!

Now Out-bound in this batch:

Cigarboy

Spotted & Speckled

Okami

Penhorse87

sdcurnow

Jazztonight.

Edit to add last minute cards in the mail!

And off for more trading! I have a nice big stack of cards here with many from the New London / Yale College area.

PS: This batch was "sealed" with a white crayon. It is the first time I tried this, and it was done on some old vintage cards and everyone came out looking perfect. A couple of the yellowed cards did show it a hair, but hardly at all. I will do this on all of them now... Nine cards is a lot of coloring!!!!

This is a lot of fun. I'd like to know how you save your cards. I started out using a Clairefontaine album but getting too many now so probably go back to some type of storage box. I log each card in and out in an Apica notebook so I know which card I sent to whom and if I got one back. Anyone do anything else with their cards or record keeping that I might not have considered?

Here is how I store and display my postcards, a binder with the cards in archival clear view protection sheets.
