Cards recently received from: Suggie, ToasterPastry, DRP, Fredrydyr, Okami (was that one of the adhesive backings?), oldnavy1988, and Toasterpastry (we must have cards crossing each other...)

Award to best non-wax seal goes to the Seal of Toaster Pastry.

Award for worst hand writing is retained by me. Dang all of you and your nice penmanship.

Cards will be heading back out after a short delay, have too much other life stuff in the works the next couple of days....

First reports in on the Avery label backing on a photo are positive for survival (no damage, didn't peel).

Okami (was that one of the adhesive backings?)

Tried to respond from my Blackberry - really frustrating when it doesn't work - so had to turn the desktop on.

Wasn't that the little dog saying he could prove he didn't do it? If so, that was a vintage card. The adhesive backings have The2Buds, Inc. printed down the center line, I have found that they seem to work very will with all but F nibs.

Award for worst handwriting is definitely not retained by you but you do get the award for being able to cram the most information onto a postcard :roflmho:

Count me in! I'd love to send/receive postcards.

I'm in Toronto, Canada (and if you act fast, you can get postcards from the Colorado Rockies).

a second card from sdcurnow recieived

The voice of this guitar of mine, at the awakening of the morning, wants to sing its joy;

I sing to your volcanoes, to your meadows and flowers, that are like mementos of the greatest of my loves;

If I am to die away from you, may they say I am sleeping, and bring me back home.

Indeed another successful pmorin mailing with Avery label backing...no peeling, and apparently no feathering when writing. I like both inks you used -- Caran d'ache Sunset and the J Herbin olive-colored ink. Nice picture.

Received a card from hookem11 yesterday - great picture of a one-time trading post. Many thanks Al.

Luckily I could just read the message because the good old English weather turned from sunny skies to an all day down-pour and the Postman, his sack and everything in it were soaked.

This leads me to ask what I should do with cards I am sending. I see that some people use wax. Are we talking about rubbing a white candle over the handwriting? What else can be done to protect non-waterproof inks? For example does anyone here use an aerosol spray can of any description?

Also, if I use ink-jet printed photos as cards can the picture be protected in a similar fashion?

Any help/comments, as always, gratefully received.

Although I have PMd Pmorin about this already I thought I should let everyone know that I too received one of his Avery label backed cards and that it is a great success. No bends, creases, tears or scuffs. I think that I shall be trying this method in the near future.

Thanks again Paul - well done.

Den,

Glad you liked the postcard and were still able to read it. I, too, look forward to any advice regarding protecting non waterproof inks from the elements.

Al

Cards received on Saturday from pmorin and Tweel. Thanks guys!

And another positive comment about the Avery label homemade cards from pmorin. The quirky photo made it across the Atlantic in great condition!

I might be trying this method in the near future!!

I use a white candle to rub across the writing on my cards - I don't know how waterproof the photos are (I've been sending a few) - I guess I'll just have to hope that they don't get left out in the rain.

I don't have the badge on my siggy, so, maybe, you should look for participants in this thread too
