Postcard Swap

Celeste - This is what I did, too. I have a Xyron machine that puts permanent adhesive on whatever you run through it. It looks like it sticks to the photos pretty well, but - as you said - it will be interesting to see how the postcards look when they arrive at their destinations. Actually though, putting a backing is probably unnecessary. I received a lovely unbacked photo in the mail, and it's none the worse for its journey.

Ah, well, from me you'll get the naked picture. Nuttin' to protect it, so we'll see how we do!

That's OK. The Xyron just applies the adhesive that sticks the card stock to the back of the photo. It doesn't put any protective surface on the front of the photo. So my photos are naked, too.

Good news, everyone! (:P)

In a twist of luck, I happened to stumble upon an office store (it's that what they're called?) which carries some very nice postcards. (:D) I got myself four, for the start. The question is: who's next? :D

Don't be shy and drop me a PM with your address if you're interested. ;)

Hello everyone!

I've mailed postcards to:

OboeJuan

CasmiUK

elena

judybug

celeste

artaddict

Hopefully they will all arrive in good shape. Apparently, near Ann Arbor all postcards must show the U of M football stadium, not my idea of an attractive postcard. So I've made my own by sticking pictures onto full sheet labels and trimming the labels to the edge of the photos.

None of us can have as many virtues as the fountain-pen, or half its cussedness; but we can try.

Wow! What a bonanza in my mail box today! :D Six lovely cards with gorgeous pictures and interesting messages - all in good condition. Thanks to all of you! What fun! I hope to have at least six ready to put in the mail tomorrow. I've already ordered an album to store all these wonderful postcards so I can hand them down to my grandkids.

I got a postcard today! The joy, the happiness! :cloud9: It feels really nice.

I hope that the postcards I sent will arrive in good condition and that they'll bring a smile to the receivers.

As I mentioned earlier, I got some more postcards today so... if you'd like a postcard from my place in the world (Bucureşti, România) please drop me a PM with your address. (C'mmon, I know you want one, don't be shy. :P)

Anyhow, this postcard exchange thingie made me feel real good and I really hope you do feel the same.

Kind regards,

Radu-Mihail

I'd like to participate!

My postcards will be sent from Ohio, but they'll be postcards I've collected from various parts of the world in my travels.

Please send a pm with your address and I'll get busy writing!

Regards

Petra

Sign me up! Anybody wanting postcards from Buffalo, NY (-ish; I'm actually in the first-ring suburb of Kenmore) please PM. I'm happy to send anywhere, and I'd be pleased to receive from anywhere!

Anyone want postcards of Buffalo wings? Beef on weck? The way-cool Art-Deco city hall? Maybe one of our Frank Lloyd Wright houses? One of my rabbits? Or I could send postcards with photos from my honeymoon trip to Alaska (even though it was five years after I got married...). I need to get some postcards!

Just a little warning: The postal service reserves the bottom 5/8 inch to print barcode (or to put a stickie with one). I tend to use every square millimeter so some of my text has been stickied-upon obscuring, usually, the most important part of my postcard: the pen info. Oh, and the "Aloha, Doug."

Aloha, Doug.

P.S. I'm still looking to swap postcards with someone as close to the center of where Google Maps opens, anywhere in a flat desert (opposite of Hawaii, but the same), or further North than Halifax Nova Scotia in latitude (Old Scotia or anywhere beyond Hadrian's Wall would be great), or as close as possible to Hawaii's antipode -- which would be Botswana in Africa, or anywhere within the Polynesian Triangle (but not somewhere I could drive to).

You'll have another soon (A postcard, that is. Wouldn't it be nice if we were all kings and queens who could send a postcard with a nice pen attached, to facilitate replies ;) ?).

I got my first card today, from Judybug! It's a really nice postcard, Judy. It's a good picture (subject, composition etc.), and I like the "retro look", which complements it -- the color and contrast have kind of an Ektachrome look, and it's been a long time since I've seen a postcard with round corners. Very nice, and I had no idea it was "home-made" until I noticed your name & address printed at the bottom (although you did say that you couldn't find any local cards...).

. . . and it's been a long time since I've seen a postcard with round corners . . .

The rounded corners are made with one of those scrapbooking corner-rounder punchy things. The one I have works much better if I use it upside down. ;) - if the punch, I mean, is upside down. (No, I'm not standing on my head, using the punch. :roflmho: )

I received 3 very nice cards from Judybug, Artaddict and Funktionslust yesterday. Thank you very much. I've sent my answer cards today via airmail so I hope you will receive it in time. It was a surprise for me that you could personalize the cards more than I thought so thank you again.

Of course it doesn't mean that I always waiting until your card is coming, I was just on vacation.

I like this postcard swap idea!

I've just written 5 postcards and they're ready to be sent off. I did hit upon a bit of a problem, the postcards I had for Manchester were on a shiny paper, so I couldn't write on them with fountain pen. At the moment I'm having to send postcards showing my hometown, I keep forgetting to pick up some of our postcards in work.

So glad you got my card! When I dropped it in the mail box, I wondered how a poor helpless little postcard could make such a long journey unescorted. :roflmho:

One of my last errands before leaving Marseille is the postcards...last week I sent one out to Judybug, and this week Elena, Tweel, artaddict and casmiUK can start the countdown to receiving theirs.

I'm sorry that that's my scanty, disappointing limit for Marseille this time around. It will take me a while before I get things going in Arizona, but I'll let you know when I'm ready. This is quite fun

Now I have to keep on packing suitcases...you'd think it would get easier with time and practice :bonk:

I received postcards from nluoma and luckygrandson at the end of the week. It's sure nice getting these "bright spots" in the mail!

The [punch] I have works much better if I use it upside down. ;) - if the punch, I mean, is upside down. (No, I'm not standing on my head, using the punch. :roflmho: )

If you "use" enough of the right punch, you might end up standing on your head!
