Postcard Swap

I'd like to get involved in this fun pastime. How do I join up? Is there an updated list of participants like I saw on the first page of this thread? Or do I just start PM'ing people in the thread for their addresses? In any case, if anyone wants some postcards from Hawaii to make them exceedingly jealous about their own February weather, I'm quite happy to oblige.

Aloha,

Justin

Read the other posts, find some people whose profiles you can look up, send them a friendly PM with your address and usually they say yes!

Thanks liapuyat, I should have looked further back in the thread, and my questions would have been answered, sorry 'bout that. Anyhow, I've just been whelmed with people wanting to exchange postcards in the last couple of hours, I guess it was pretty easy to join up!

Just returned from a mind-numbing trip to India — I posted a few cards from there to my regulars — and found two lovely cards from Fred and Leanne awaiting me. Muchos gracias! :)

Do I need to come up with some witty lines or small talk to get involved in postcard swapping?

I like the idea of filling up the worlds postal systems with beautifully written postcards, but I'm worried I don't have anything worth saying?!

Any advice?!

No, just write as the mood takes you...IMO, it's what PCs are for :)

If you make people think they're thinking, they'll love you; But if you really make them think, they'll hate you.

Well, I'll send you a postcard if you like. Check your PM later. Send PMs to people you want to write to (see their profiles, that will help) and offer to exchange addresses. That easy.

Compared to letter writing, filling up postcards is very "in the moment". I think the best thing to write is something that expresses your personality, even if the picture on the postcard can be seen on every pc wallpaper on the internet. You could say something about the photo, or something about yourself, or to say it's a place you still dream of going to, or even write some lines of a poem you like that relates to the photo. Just because you've swapped it doesn't mean that's it, you can continue correspondences with the same persons for a long time. It's a matter of willingness.

There are people who like the postcards for the images and the locations they represent. Hari sent me a postcard of skiing in the Indian highlands... I had no idea there was an area where one could ski there (mountaineering was more like it)! Learned something there :)

There are those who like to look at what pen and what ink you chose writing on it (to help them choose what they would like to use in the future). Fredrydr's postcards made me realize that stubs are cool, and now I probably want one. Jared's card showed me that Noodler's Legal Lapis is such an awesome color, too bad it's so hard to find.

There are those who focus on the content. I had a pretty postcard from Suggie showing a museum-quality Shetland handknit sweater (I knit) and he wrote something about how he found and chose the card - he is from Shetland and knitting is something Shetland (Scotland) is famous for.

There are people who like everything about the card, including the stamps.

Getting postcards in the mail is really great, especially when you hit the mid-week blues.

Thanks for the lovely Mardi Gras postcard, Judybug! Your handwriting is awesome. Love the way the Moore ringtop flex nib writes. Sheaffer Skrip purple is a pretty nice color... (adds that to my wishlist).

I do not know exactly what to do for joining postcard exchange community here, but if you are interested in recieving postcards from Prague (and not only from here), just write me a PM.

You can also write me if you would like to send a postcard to Prague :)

I will be sending out PMs to anyone who sends cards to me, but just in case I inadvertently miss anyone I thought I'd post here too. I'm moving house soon, so could I ask everyone to hold fire on postcards until the end of the month :)

Sending and receiving postcards sounds like great fun!

Magnets are holding postcards of my friends at the refrigator door and it might be nice to add some more.

I am living in Germany and if anyone likes to send a postcard to Germany or likes to receive one from here, just send me a PM.

Sounds cool, so I just send a card to one of your addresses and then you're polite and send one back? :P

Where can I find a newer/larger list of addresses?
