Postcard Swap

For those of you who have post cards coming out of your ears even after you've papered the walls and ceiling - here's an idea - use them for bookmarks. I do a lot of reading - 3 or 4 or more books at a time. The post cards I've received from all of you make great bookmarks and I get to enjoy them all over again. I think I'll set up a post card rotation schedule.

Thanks to both FredRydr and FieryPhoenix for their newest cards.

Fred, for a moment, it looked like a Christmas card. Then I peered closer to see what comprised all that red :D

FieryPhoenix, your penmanship is simply stunning. Everyone at the office enjoyed both cards, and I shall treasure them, as always.

Carrie,

I just returned from dipping into the deep well of vintage postcards, so your post is timely.

I used to hike from Shanklin to Blackgang and west. Such a quiet and beautiful cliff walk in the early autumn.

Hi all!

It has been a while since i posted (a card). My wife and I have bought a house and are renovating it, so there's little time to write postcards these days. And all my fountainpens are boxed now, for when we are moving...

We are moving next week, so if anybody was planning on sending a card, please hold on to it for a moment. Soon i will send a PC to my regular contacts with my new adress. (Same town, so no new PCs i'm afraid).

Best regards and thanks for understanding my lack of replying pcs....

Hi Fred, Leanne and Steve,

now that my major project is over, I finally found the time to send you postcards. Hope you receive them soon.

Steve, thanks for your card. It's been surprisingly fun getting into this hobby.

As an aside, it's depressing to observe the lack of unique and quirky postcards in Sydney.

Cheers,

Jason

Okay... I'm ready to jump into the postcard-writing and -mailing fun. Who wants a postcard from the SF-Bay Area (but not necessarily OF the SF-Bay Area) (but maybe)?

I have pens, inks, and stamps. Oh boy!

Fred,

Got your Post Card of the Hershey Hotel this week....again another post card destroyed by the US Mail. Ripped in half and taped, delivered in a USPS baggie. That's two of the last three you have sent that have been mangled by the postal service! Any way it has been reverently placed in my Post Card album! Thanks, I'll get some out after I either find some or make some up.

Pat,

You are not the only recipient who has told me about this. At first I thought it was poor card stock of those 100-year-old cards I send, but the Hershey Hotel card wasn't so deteriorated.

I suspect the gigantic postal sorting machine in Harrisburg has a separate little chute for disliked items (such as letters and postcards with addresses written by hand and not typed), which automatically go through a ripping and bagging device. The theory is that it will teach us a lesson, and deter us henceforth from making more work for postal workers in the sorting office.

Oh well, all I can do is...................................send more! ;)

I have cards on the way to Defacto, Zoe, and a few old friends from the list as well. :-)

I picked up several new cards on a little trip last week, so if anyone would care to trade, drop me a line. (And if we've traded before, I'd love to re-check as well!!) :-)

I've sent out a handful of postcards, and what I'm discovering is that postcards are the Twitter of handwritten correspondence.

I find that I run out of space long before I run out of what I'm writing. Heh.

Alright, I'll bite. How do you get on this postcard group?

They seem to have it in for you Fred...I got one of your cards in a plastic bag today, with an apology from the USPS! Thanks, anyway!

While we don't have any "rules," and I have no official status, I usually take on the task of pointing out the following:

The usual protocol is that you look through this thread and identify someone(s) with whom you would like to exchange cards. You PM that person and offer to PM your address. They PM you back with their address and you PM them back with your address.

That way you get to solicit postcards from whomever you choose based on whatever criteria you choose.

Yes, and not only going out. I received one from Flexicat with about a quarter of it torn away and the remaining three-quarters put into a USPS envelope.

Here is a photo of the Central Penn Pens group on a tour of the Elmerton Avenue main post office in Harrisburg. We wanted to visit the sorting facility, for some reason they barred our entry.
