Wolfgang - love your Florida card. My late in-laws kept us going there for many years. I miss the beautiful beaches and warm water. Thanks for the swap.

Hey everyone,

I've had the nicest cards from these FPN members in our postcard exchange, and some have developed into letters. I really appreciate the time and postage! I get a kick out of finding the best and oddest cards, more fun than finding perfect writing paper. Some of the cards I've sent are horrible to write on with a fountain pen, but no matter. Only two who've asked me for vintage cards (and I sent a bunch) never replied; they will eventually.

Thank you thank you thank you. Oh, and beware, another trip to the flea market where the cards come from is coming (and I even found a pretty art deco Ink-Vue there).

. . . Oh, and beware, another trip to the flea market where the cards come from is coming . . .

Fred has outdone himself! Yesterday I got a previously used card from Fred. This card was mailed from France to someone in the U.S. in 1949! Fred wrote in the margins, but left the original message so I could read it. Ethel and Dan were telling Reba and Bill all about their visit to Vichy. The original French stamp is on the card - Fred added a 27 cent stamp next to it - and the post office delivered it! Bless their little hearts - and Fred's, too, of course. I'm thrilled with this card!!! :clap1: I guess for the same reason an old vintage pen with the previous owner's name engraved on it thrills me - I love imagining what these people were like.

BTW, Ethel says she tasted "the famous Vichy water," but wasn't much impressed with it. Just think - if Ethel and Dan were very young in 1949, they may still be living. Whether they are living or departed, I'm sure they never had any idea that 59 years later, I would be sitting in Louisiana enjoying their card. Many years from now, when my descendants are wondering what to do with my post card collection - this may give them an idea.

I just got one of those too! From Ethel & Dan to Reba & Bill. Great recycling idea. :clap1:

Finally got some sent out to those that have been kind enough (thank you http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v477/ConLaz/rose.gif)

to send me one.

Would have been there sooner but my adventure with the homemade ones didn't work out too

well. (See my review in the Paper and Pen Paraphernalia board if curious)

For those that SHOULD have gotten one of my shots:

Enjoy. :)

Took that on a hike with the teens a few weekends ago.

I usually send "thanks" for post cards via PM, but I've let things pile up so I'll post my thanks here all at once. MANY thanks to all these for the beautiful post cards I've received this past week :) --------

I love all your postcards and the FPs and inks you all use. One day I'll have much more impressive pens to write with.

Take your time! By the way, when it comes to pens, think of the tired old saying men fret over. It's not the pen but how you use it. :)

Yes, I got one like that, originally from Walt & Pat, Naples, Florida..thanks, Fred :D

There would rarely be enough space on my cards for any additions...I get my $$ worth!!

I try to acknowledge receipt by sending one back!....but my list cannot get close to Fred's!

Actually, it was quite simple. When I joined the postcard swap several months ago, I sent PMs to everyone from the beginning of this thread. About 60% responded, maybe 30 people, plus those since. I keep a running list of name, address and FPN moniker to make life easier for addressing, so it was an easy cut and paste to make the list. Many FPN members enjoy an acknowledgment of their card on here (though I prefer to reply with another odd card), so I did!

Of course, I'm very glad you enjoy them; I enjoy finding and sending them. I only wish the US Postal Service would come up with more attractive 27-cent domestic postcard stamps!

I love that picture, and I love the postcard you sent me. It reminds me of Starved Rock State Park in Illinois, which was always one of my favorite places to go, when I was growing up.

Oddly, "pencil" means something like "little, little [you know]" -- but "pen" just means "feather" (and a "nib" is a nose or beak).

Hello,

Fred is clearly the most systematic sender on postcard swap. The one of the Norton motorcycle was much appreciated.

I've picked up some postcards from a textiles exhibition -- should anyone want one, let me know by a PM.

Regards,

Suggie

FredRydr is a postcard sending maniac!
When at the antique dealers mall on Bedford Street in Carlisle (an old brick mill behind the old county jail), I'm now looking at the backs of cards as much as the fronts to see 50 to 100-year-old correspondence that can be resurrected and shared for your pleasure. I never really noticed some of the innuendo postcard senders used way back when, such one writer urging a friend to try "honeymooning."

If anyone is curious about the postcard swap and would like a postcard fix, please feel free to shoot me a PM. I enjoy it as much as you! (Doug, check out my new title.)

Fred has brought a whole new dimension to the postcards.

I received from him an old postcard, stamped originally from Luzern, dated 1950, and signed, "Greetings, Lute and Irene". I guess Lute and Irene were vacationing in Switzerland and sent the card home, and it eventually found its way to an antique store, found by Fred and now in its second life as a postcard.

This is a real interesting treasure, like a palimpsest.

Sort of.

Thanks Fred!
