Postcard Swap

My husband took some nice photos today at a local car show. I'm making some of them into post cards. If anyone would like a photo-card of a vintage car, just send me a PM.

Judy,

I'll do better than that. You're gettin' another card!

I just got a lovely card from Carol in England, written while she was sitting in the very library I'd spent many many hours writing 30 years ago in north Staffordshire.

Isn't it amazing?

OK, so I have been slack and haven't reported back very on all the fabulous postcards I have received from my new friends at FPN.

I shall attempt to rectify this by mentioning all the arrivees so far:

The first one I received was a card from FredRydr showing the Great American Chocolate Factory in Hershey Pennsylvania (mmmmmm!)! It was inscribed using a Waterman 100-year-pen and Sailor's black ink. Thanks, Fred! My home town played some well-fought series' against the Scranton team (American Hockey League) a few years ago before we lost the franchise.

The next one was a card from PaulGeo showing downtown Hollywood, CA (I've been to San Francisco, San Jose and San Diego at various times for work, never to the LA area). Paul used a Waterman phileas with J. Herbin Lie de The ink, which reminds me a bit of a lighter, muted version of the Private Reserve Black Cherry I sometimes use. Much more amenable to business and casual correspondence than than my private reserve is!

Judybug sent me a card of Louisiana's state capitol in Baton Rouge (another of my "bucket list" places to visit, I want to spend a few months investigating that entire area of the US). Judy used her Cross Townsend XF with Sheaffer Turquoise ink (great ink colour, I'm on the hunt for some of that now for my next purchase...)

The next postcard I received was from Katie (gr10girl) showing off a snow-covered Hillsdale College. It's nice to see not all the US has sun and fun throughout the winter! Katie used a late 50s/early 60s Pelikan M140 with Tulipe Noire ink. I like it! This ink is also similar to my Private Reserve Black Cherry, but a much darker, browner version, and, like the J. Herbin, much more suitable for every day use than my Black Cherry.

The last postcard I received last week was from Clancy in beautiful redwoods State Park in CA. Clancy used an Aurora Ipsilon and Noodler's La Coleuer Royal. I really like this colour, and it is something I am trying to find in a bulletproof ink. When I see it on the card looks a LOT more like blue than the colour sample appears online at their website!

Thanks everyone for the postcards, they are great, and I'm sure you have my mailman wondering what's up! :roflmho:

Two cards made it to me over the last couple days, one from FredRydr, and one from sdcurnow. Fred, it looks like the ink/pen gave you some trouble, but the shading is wonderful. And very nifty postage stamps. Steve, now that I've seen P.R. Sherwood first hand, I can see it is slightly bluer than N. Gruene Cactus. The pioneer town scene reminds me in some ways of the town where I grew up.

Andru, what was the pen & ink combination on that?

Received a great card from Brian (Tweel) in Indiana yesterday. The card shows the Loeb Fountain on Purdue University. And brian, what a great idea adding a label to the back of the card... I picked up a bunch of cards the other day that were glossy and useless for FPs. I was trying to figure out people to write to with ball points when I received this and realized all was not lost!

I'd like to suggest that we all make it a point to date the post cards we send out. I'm afraid I forget to do that sometimes, and - unfortunately - the dates on postal marks are not always readable. I've been thinking that when when our great-grandchildren inherit our post card collections, they'll probably appreciate having the cards dated. I always think ahead. :bunny01:

I just began doing that the other day. I realized that, of all the dozens of cards I've received in the past few months...only a few had legible postmark dates. Wonderful idea!
