Postcard Swap

And for those of you who are real postcard fanatics, as I am, may I suggest Postcrossing. Although I now have 3 cards stuck traveling to Russia and my mail box is very unhappy. :bawl:

I adore Postcrossing! I've been using it for more than 5 years now.

As for 3 to Russia... bummer. They take forever if they get registered at all. Do you know about the little check-box on your profile that says "check if you prefer to send to repeated countries?" I have mine UNchecked so that I'll never have more than one going to Russia and China at once. I actually did an entire blog post about my frustration with that check-box.

Really. I thought that meant repeat countries EVER. Hmmm.

Remember the day we got 6 'extra' cards to send. ALL 6 of mine were to Russia. These are the last hangers-on. I can't wait for them to expire.

No, no, not at all - repeat countries traveling simultaneously.

You will send to a much greater variety of countries if you uncheck that puppy.

...the google doc that I believe FredRydr set up....

Nope. That good idea was someone else's.

I think I have the answer, and will give it a shot in a new thread. Later.

Fred

Glad I came on here today!

FYI Fred - I just sent you a long overdue postcard. I lost track of my correspondence in the past year and restarted them again this weekend! I'm glad to see people are still interested.

I have been actively exchanging PC's with old friends from this thread, but haven't picked up any new ones lately. If anyone would like a card, send me a PM.

I also send a lot of cards via Postcrossing. Thanks for the tip on the "check box."

I just bought about 100 postcards from Ebay today. I went a bit mad... So if anyone would like random PCs from me - I believe they are US or foreign based or random drawings, PM me and I will definitely send you one. :)

Hi everybody,

I live near Munich, Germany and would really enjoy swapping Postcards worldwide.

So just PM me, if you want one from Bavaria :vbg:

Maybe a handwritten letter is old-fashioned, but it's always more meaningful and respectful than an email could ever be!

Would it be OK for postcards I print myself? I'm an amateur photographer and I'd love to combine two hobbies here.

Foo! So many pens and inks, so little money....

Why not? If the paper is strong enough to pass the sorting machines without damage

and could be written on the backside by fp, i don't see any obstacle. As I'm an amateur

photographer as well, what about a two-way test run? ;)

I printed a few photo postcards for fun. I bought a rubber stamp with a vintage postcard format to stamp on the back, but it isn't necessary. The photo paper for photo inkjet printers is stronger than any of my modern postcards, and it seems to accept fountain pen ink quite well.

Fred

P.S. By the way, if anyone wants a pile of 50 unused vintage Florida postcards (1940s-50s) with deckled edges for $7 postpaid in the USA, PM me. I acquired too many Florida cards in my last bulk purchase at the antiques market.

I've managed to send one out to my mother and another to a friend and they have survived the US Post handling, so I'd think that international will be OK as well. I use spray adhesive to attach a blank note card on the back for the message/address. I then spray the picture side with clear gloss and after writing the message and address the note side so that the ink won't run in case it gets wet. I'm 2 for 2 right now.

I'm open to cards from anywhere. I'm not picky! Anyway, my address if anybody wants to send something to me and get a card in return is:

Michael Fortner

PO Box 1260

Stockbridge, GA 30281

USA

I also have some cards that I printed on printable inkjet printable cards if you'd prefer that.

What is the spray gloss?

Fred, this is what I am using right now. It's a clear acrylic sealer (available in matte or gloss) that you can find in the craft supplies. Really handy for when you print something with an inkjet printer and then don't want the ink to run if it gets wet. I first started using it on models and miniatures that I painted and discovered other uses for it as I went along.
