Postcard Swap

In some of the earlier posts, I saw that a "postcard interest list" was being maintained. Is someone still doing that and if so, who and when was it last updated? Thanks!

Hi,

I'd be interested in this exchange. There are 147 pages in this thread, and rather than reading every one of them, I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what the final decision was about how to become a part of if. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I have sent you a PM with the basics (which are pretty simple pick someone in the thread and send them a PM asking them if they want to swap, exchange addresses and cards!).

I am trying to find out if the master list is still being maintained - see my post a few back - as that would be helpful to anyone who has joined recently (like me!).

I would love to get in on the postcard exchange. If you would like one from Northern IL, please drop me a PM.

Just as an aside, given how many people keep addresses within their own PM folders (myself included):

Is everyone aware that all of our PMs will be deleted as of Nov. 27?

I do not mean to hijack this thread, but I am in favor of some kind of mass email to FPNers to alert them of this, as I myself just stumbled across this info by accident. If I just discovered all my PMs gone forever, I know I'd be pretty peeved...

My older PMs contain addresses that I have saved to an Excel file. Newer PMs I get as emails, are saved in my email FPN folder. Also some of us have added a temporary signature to speed the notification process.

My two cents:

While I truly appreciate the effort Steve puts into updating and compiling a master list of everyone who's ever participated in the postcard swap, my concern is that many early postcarders (on the list) no longer seem to be active participants.

It seems to me that the best thing for a new person who wants to get in on "the action" should do is to PM some of the most recent (or frequent) posters--senders and recipients, rather than try to interest members who may no longer be active.

Next: Like some others, I keep a log (mine is an Excel spreadsheet) tracking cards in and out and people's addresses. I was eventually going to run out of space on my message list anyway, so I'm not too alarmed at the cleaning out of the message caches.

Finally, I also favor splitting the threads somehow, although I'm not sure of the logistics. Whether or not I post a message saying that I sent you a card or got one from you, you'll hopefully get one from me regardless. I have a feeling I'm going to join the postcard swappers that periodically post a message that says:

"I received a bunch of cards this week, and I sent out a bunch, too!"

As a matter of fact, that's just what happened this week! B)

Keep 'em coming!

I'd like to participate. Not sure how it works.

Now, I'll have to find some postcards. PM me with info, if you would like a postcard from SC. Or PM for my address.

Brilliant idea. When I was studying abroad, getting handwritten (and copiously illustrated) letters from friends is what kept me sane. There's something about letters and cards that emails/facebook can't rival. Ever.

WOW! Thats a lot of work! Kudos to you mate :)

(although its Fairbanks, not Anchorage... ya only missed by 400 miles though. ;) )

I'm almost caught up in cards owed for cards received again, but I regret to say I should be taken off the list. I just don't have enough time right now for the corespondences I already have, let alone any new ones.
