Pilot Iroshizuku Yu-yake 夕燒け – a lazy review

I've had this ink for years, but never gave it all that much love, because my last memory of it was that its colour is pale and muted, and thus unsuitable for use in Fine nibs. My relatively new HongDian N1-S came fitted with a steel EF nib (with no other option on offer, in case you're wondering) that is anything but fine, and so I thought it might put down pale and muted broad(er) lines of ink that make for legible writing. Imagine my surprise when the writing came out looking like blood orange! So, I just have to show you:

 

 

 

Oh, the paper used is Rhodia DotPad 80g/m² 5mm dot grid paper (as usual for me), and there was no feathering, no show-through, no bleed-through, and no sheen observed.

Well-shown!  You made me go look at both Yu-yake and Fuyu-gaki, and I think I like this one better.  Anderson Pens do nice ink write-ups, and I particularly liked theirs for these two colors - whoever makes these pages does a wonderful job.  Linked above for anyone else interested.

Uh oh, another rabbit hole. I learned last year that I cannot claim to dislike any particular colour. I would have said I disliked pink prior to 2021 which, unplanned and inexplicably, became my year of pink. I ended up with several pink pens and then sought inks to match. In doing so discovered it's not the simply the hue, but saturation and chroma that make or break for me. There are muted pinks I now love and the pens that hold them.

 

I just ordered a coral pen which I think will work well with the recently arrived Van Dieman's Tassie Salmon.

 

See I am already on my way to orange... there's even a sample of Diamine's Deep Dark Orange in play (in a gloss black Lamy Safari - it looks hot coming out of that!).

 

And now this Yu-yake.

 

Sheesh, I'm going to be looking at orange pens next! Never say never.
