What kind of name for an ink is "Adular Blue"?

but I don't know if it's possible for any brownish dye (especially one that leans yellow/green rather than red) to sheen red.

I was looking very hard for a brown ink that sheens violet/purple, at one stage. Alas, I was unable to find out, and eventually it isn't that useful to me any more.

I liked the idea of an ink rebel naming colors not "Love," "Forgiveness," and "Confidence," but "Flattery," "Bossiness," "Gawd-Help-Us," and "Not-You-Again."

I'm still hope for a series (or, as the Chinese ink manufacturers are apt to call it, a ‘season’) of inks along the lines of:

  • asphyxiation blue
  • bruising blue-black
  • cadaver grey
  • mucus green
  • number 1 yellow
  • number 2 brown
  • vomit multi-hued (with orange pigment particles)

and I imagine each ink would deliver a wide range of shades.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Of course you can. Sculpey or similar, then finish with acrylic paint.

Will work for pens...

Or Cadaver Green (black sheen) and Mucus Yellow (red glitter).

Plus (new season: Refrigerator):

Doubtful Green

Denial Brown

Disengaging Pale Yellow

Leftover Puddle Chartreuse

Before the turn of the century, I was living the life of a bachelor — yes, still in the same two-bedroom apartment in the CBD — and all I kept in the fridge and freezer at the time was milk for coffee, ice cubes for alcoholic drinks, butter for the occasional slice of toast, and ice-cream. Not kidding ya; I was eating out for essentially every meal. With Chinatown within walking distance, and some restaurants there open until 2AM and serving their full menus until near closing time, I just couldn't be bothered cooking when I could be leaving the office any time between 6PM and midnight depending on project work demands on the day.

My then-best friend had been headhunted to take a very well-paid job in Silicon Valley back in the day, and we'd see each other only once every 12 to 18 months. Since he was from Australia (but not Sydney), he flew back here to visit more often than I flew to the US.

On one of his stays, he asked me what a certain thing in the fridge was. I told him I didn't know, and didn't have any recollection of putting it in the fridge. He said, ”I think that was the cheese I bought when I visited you last time.”

What a great story!

I think all we have in our fridge are condiments: about 900 of them.

:lticaptd:Where the spots on his fur are holes for the pens?  I'm thinking a 3D printer could do it.

I was thinking of something more along these lines:

That sounds a lot like the "science experiment" that my husband's best man had in his fridge for several years....

But didn't you have leftovers from your constant forays to restaurants in Chinatown by you?  We always do....

Yeah.  At one of the pen shows I was at in the fall, there was a guy from my local pen club (he does pen turning and generally sells at craft shows around here) who had a table, and was also selling small animal pen rests that I think were made out of Sculpey for a friend of his.  I bought a blue unicorn with yellow hooves and a yellow mane and horn, because it was just too cute!

There you go. The Bloggess probably can offer some recommendations:

THAT WAS HILARIOUS!  Particularly the taxidermy weasel wearing a fez ("because fezzes are cool").  I need to post a comment saying that it also needs a bow tie, "because bow ties are cool...".

Yes, that's why I was playing with the various unlikely ink terms. It seemed so odd to name an ink a flattering & fawning blue. I still am enamored of that notion, but I suspect that @I-am-not-really-here is right, and that the name is meant to refer to the Adular (lunar stone) or moonstone.

I would tend to agree that the name comes from the moonstone. According to the OED, adular as a word is truly only used in connection with crystal habits. The connection is associated with adularia, which is a feldspar that occurs in schists, most notably in the Swiss Alps . . .

All of which is to say, that yeah, the moonstone is probably where they chose the name from. 🤷‍♂️
