Sailor Blue Black in Round versus Square Bottle

Can anyone verify if the ink in these two bottles are the same? The word 'jentle' is absent on the square bottle. Some sellers are offering both versions. 36155609_sailorbbink.JPG.f69a2d6be754a418604ef5e0c71ad106.JPG

I am not a definitive source, but my understanding was that the Jentle line of inks was separated out into other lines and the standard colors were just renamed to lack the Jentle moniker. I could be totally wrong here, but I believe they should be the same ink, though I think the Jentle line comes will a filling cup inside and the standard bottles do not.

Some details.

Same ink different bottle. Jentle name remains for Blue, Black and Blue-black at Cult Pens.  Other retailers refer to them as Standard.  The rest are now included in the Shikori line in smaller rectilinear bottles at a higher price per ml.

The "round" bottles are still available for custom inks mixed for retailers in Japan.

Add lightness and simplicate.

But how do you expect someone to verify there is no change in the formulation, even if they're nominally “the same” ink? Chromatography under strict conditions to ensure the experimenter is comparing like for like? Even “the same” ink can change across some cusp without it being marked by a change in bottle shape or labels, even for brands such as Waterman and Cross, never mind KWZ Ink and Noodler's Ink.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

I can't speak to the difference between the two, I just know this Blue Black in the square bottle is wonderful stuff. I think it was @Intensity who recommended it to me. It writes beautifully and has become my new favorite ink. :)

In my personal experience they have been the same.  Now if your Jentle bottle is old and has had some evaporation, it might be slightly more concentrated as a result.  But I've had both and they perform, look, and smell the same.  And Sailor Jentle Black / basic 'square' black: I have only tried the square bottle, but it looks the same as what I see in reviews of the Jentle.

I have the older (round) bottle and box but not the newer square one. Does the new box (if there even is one) have the same number (on a separate label on the box) as the old number -- 13-1000-244 -- on it ?

Whew

No, mine says 13-1007-244. Does that mean they are a different formula?

It does not mean that.

It's just a different SKU identifier, which absolutely makes sense considering the entirely different branding (without the Jentle moniker) and the different bottle shape from the old Sailor Jentle Blue-Black ink 50ml bottle product.

same ink. have gone through 5 bottles of each version.

I think this 'verifies' it, chromatography or no chromatography. Thanks.

Old SKU : 13-1000-244

New SKU : 13-1007-244

The 244 number means the ink is the same.

No, I'm afraid it doesn't. It means the ink colour is classified as the same, but it does not mean the ink formulation remains the same. As hobbyists, most of us don't just care about the colour as it appears, but also for other characteristics that are dictated by the formulation, in considering whether two inks are identical to each other (or whether they warrant being regarded as different inks).

I'm going along with the previous claims that the inks with 244 are "the same". What I had learned years ago was that the 244 (as last entity of the three-some SKU) is the "actual" identity of one formulation. The number just in front of that (like your 1007 and my 1000) is their presentation of the issue of that formulation. Such an "issue" can be for simply a new year and/or location of manufacture, a new boxing, a new whole bottle etc. What I didn't know was that you had a 244.

And here is the e-mail from the horse's mouth (or hooves) about this matter

Thank you for your email.

Jentle ink with round bottles were used to be distributed in the market, however the bottle figure has been changed to square type.  Thus contents formulation is same, but their exterior.

Thanks and regards
