Yes, I later figured out that they are for the Honest 66 pen. There was an earlier series - the Honest 60 - that were not designed for these long cartridges.

Yes, that's right. Mine came with the Honest 66. I don't remember if it was one of the earliest of Platinum's cartridge pens. I think it was. The cartridges are similar in length to the converter if I remember correctly.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

The preceding series, the Honest 60, also used cartridges. I think they are the same size as the contemporary Platinum cartridges but I'm not sure.

The history of it all is quite interesting. That said, in my mind, the most important is that at least you can find ways to refill the pen, so as long as someone makes cartridges that fit, that's a good thing. With the Platinum cartridges, interestingly enough there are plenty of random Japanese pens (and some Taiwan made pens) that take the Platinum cartridges. I have a Kuretake brush pen and for whatever reason that takes Platinum cartridges. I also have an ancient Minka pen (from Taiwan) that takes them. There's also the Morison pens that often can fit Platinum cartridges. Mine has a Platinum converter installed in it at the moment. Not a Japanese or Taiwanese pen, but you can also fit Platinum cartridges and converters in the Aurora Duocart (vintage, don't do this in the new Duocart, put a regular Aurora cartridge in that instead). My Aurora Duocart has a Platinum converter in it right now and that's how I usually use it.

As another side note, many times, the Platinum Honest 66 grip sections will screw on Nakaya barrels. They often use identical threading.

I do have an Honest 60 now (in addition to my Honest 66). Interestingly enough, it uses the current Platinum cartridge. The barrel is too short for the long cartridge the Honest 66 uses. You also cannot use a regular Platinum converter without modification because it is too long to fit. My Honest 60 is a larger pen than my Honest 66 is, but the Honest 66 has a much longer barrel space and fits a regular Platinum converter just fine. In my Honest 60, I'm using a Platinum converter modified with a shorter knob and slightly shorter stroke than a regular Platinum converter. That way it will fit in the pen. I have very similarly modified converters in my Platinum pocket pens and the other short bodied Platinum pen that I have.

I have similarly shortened converters for my Sailor pocket pens. You can actually see an example of a shortened Sailor converter in my profile picture. The ones for the pocket pens are modified similarly, but I make them specifically fitted for each pen I have. Different pens have different space in the barrel, so I adjust the size to fit the same way. For my Platinum and Sailor pens, I customize the converters case by case for each pen specifically to maximize what little space I have in there.

I recently acquired an 18k variant of this pen, with an identical section and barrel, but an aluminum cap, as opposed to the resin and gold fill of your 23k pen.

...it's a fabulous writer, though the cap seal on mine is somewhat lackluster, so it's not a good pen for occasional use in a large rotation :(
