I’ve been lucky to acquire one of these pens and am just getting to know it.  Mine was used gently and appears very well cared for.  I find with little or no pressure the nib tends to skip: I’ve tried Noodlers Heart of Darkness and Iroshkizuku Kon Peki ink.  When flexed the ink flow is juicy.  Any suggestions?  The tines are well aligned, the nib is aligned on the feed.  The tines do seem a little tight but I believe that’s how these pens come from the factory.

Thanks,

N

Anyone happen to know why the groove at the knob?

If there's no such groove, the edge will be taped to a slightly smaller diameter after polishing, which causes some unwanted visual effect. Either needs to cut off extra length of end piece, or cut a groove to remove uneven diameter due to polishing.

Montblanc chooses the later solution.

Still playing around with mine.  The horizontal strokes seem to starve and skip more than I would expect - even with Iroshizuku.  The tines are aligned but touching at the tip.  Any recommendations?  Keep using it? Shim the nib?

Based on what I see about MJR the odds that they would take care of it properly seem slim.   It’s a delightful writer with mild pressure applied FWIW.

perhaps ink change could help.  am using MB toffee and it has been great.

I agree. Mine also performs better with MB permanent inks, and with For whom The Bell Tolls by Wearingeul.

I had trouble with mine when it was new also. The best advice I got was to use it for a few weeks and see if it’s loosens up the tines a bit. The tines are quite thin and fragile. They did loosen up and she writes like a champ now.

Thank you so much for the advice!  I cleaned the nib a few more times and flossed it with a film - writing beautifully now.

Enjoy the pen!

But just a comment on “just” your phone … I am well invested in macro and micro photo equipment, but I have become very impressed with my iPhone 15 Pro camera.  The resolution and imaging software are amazing.

Yes this nib experience made me regret cheaping out and not getting the pro.  Never again!

I would probably not have done so myself, but my wife knows me better, and she is charge of the electronics chez nous.  The macro capabilily is great.  For serious stuff I still use my Nikon D850 with a 105 mm Micro-Nikkor.  The IPhone can still be used in a light tent, though, and is so handy for a quick shot.  For example, the attached was just a quicky with the iPhone, but in a light tent with LED panel lights.
