What pen(s) are you using today?

Today's journal pen is yet again the Pilot Prera Slate Grey fine italic (from a Pilot Plumix) with yet another ink. And I think this one is it! Taccia Ukiyo-e Ainezu: blue grey to complement the pen colour and wet enough to work nicely with the nib. Both are oh so slightly more blue than is showing in this photo, definitely way greyer than blue, the ink is a slightly lighter value than the pen body.

So far today it's been the freshly re-inked Emerald Pearl 1st Generation Parker Vacumatic, F(?) nib, with vintage Quink Washable Brown.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Today's journal pen is a Pilot MR with a CM nib. Inked with Pilot Iroshizuku Fuyu-syogun. I so want to like this ink, the cartridge was moved to this pen from another with a finer nib because it was coming out too pale. I don't think this is enough contrast for me either. And after the delight of the Taccia Ukiyo-e Ainezu yesterday... I think I am forever spoiled because that one raised the bar. I know, very fussy...

Normally I say NO! to shiny metal sections, but for this I make an exception.

A much-anticipated new pen arrived yesterday. Note: Pelikan Blue-Black is better in this pen than the BungBox ink. Also, the beautiful cap band serves as a very effective roll stop!

No photo today, my journal pen was a repeat of one a few days ago. A Lamy Al-star Graphite, with a fine nib, filled with the very last drops of a sample of Robert Oster Chicago that was rescued from another pen with a syringe. I can't bear to waste ink.

Will work for pens...

TL;DR: A Geha 790 Schulfüller with OBB steel nib, inked with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown.

I was very surprised by how well the pen can let ink flow on rather rough paper. The strokes are long, crisp, and give good feedback to the hand that guides the pen. See Figures 1-3 for more details.

Interesting!  Thanks for the pics.

Sounds like your batting average was better than mine.  I was somewhat impressed with the pen body/barrel on the Jinhao x750's, but the stock M nibs were garbage (scratchy).  I bought a set of EF nibs for them and switched a couple out, but they're pretty bad too.  Not an alignment issue, the tip is actually different thicknesses (when I examined them with the loupe).  On the bright side, I've got a set of pens to practice tuning, grinding and polishing on.  So there's that.

On the other hand, the EPAKH pens (also cheap) write extremely well (as good as any of my Safari's and/or TWSBI's, and one of them actually writes better than that).  I was impressed.  They were even cheaper than the Jinhao's.  Again, I bought both sets solely for doing some knock-around ink testing and experimenting with (nibs, etc.) so all in all I wasn't upset.  Both sets cost me a total of $17 bucks (US), all-in, so if they got ran over by a bus tomorrow it would be no tragic loss.  I wasn't planning on taking either out in public anyway.

Lol, no. I wasn’t planning on taking the Swans out to sign important documents. 😄 I saw the EPAKH you bought, but being in Canada, the price was hiked up as they generally factor in the shipping fees when it’s from the U.S. I’m not a big fan of Lamy (do NOT like the paper clip) but I would buy a knockoff for testing purposes if it were cheap enough.

@Faye Slift Yeah, not a big fan of the paper clips on the LAMY's either, but I was stationed in SE Asia for a couple years and for some reason LAMY's were the only decent FP's we could get.  You'd think you'd be able to get FP's by the box for a buck, but there's not a lot of market for FP's until you get further north like HK and Japan (some demand in Singapore, but that was mostly filled out of HK).  I was out in the jungle where it was a luxury to find something simple like...ice!  FP's were the last thing on people's minds.  But I digress.  Anyway, I got used to using LAMY during this time and really began to love the angled grip.  It does grow on a person.

The new Esterbrook Candy. 😬 This is the most colorful pen I have owned, but I just love it.  It is a refreshing switch up from my normal hues of blue, green, and teal.  I have yet to write with the nib, but found that it paired quite well with a notebook I already had on hand.  Excited for it's maiden voyage!

I couldn't open the photo.  I hope you can take another picture (perhaps in a JPG?)
