What pen(s) are you using today?

Let me see, first it was the Gravitas Entry to write a shopping list, then in order for various notetaking during the day, a Conway Stewart Duro and a series 58, and an Onoto Scholar.

So, I rumaged around and found the original nib for this Parker 75. It's a #70, which is a medium stub. Nice.

I filled the Lamy Savannah with Diamine Meadow that I got for my birthday last year. That is the pen I used today.

Technically, though, since I got to bed after midnight last night, you could also include the Morrison sterling filigree overlay ringtop, semi flex F nib, with Waterman Tender Purple.

Bed after midnight! Gosh.

I have a soft spot for the Morrison overlay pens. They look good, and are pretty decent writers.

Wednesday, it was my Sheaffer Cadet with Yama-guri, Thursday was M200 green-marble with Golden Beryl and pink Oprima with Lamy Vibrant Pink. Friday was M405 blue-stripe with Knan-co and the Aurora Ferrari with Monaco Red. I realized the Monaco was distinctly darker than the red accents on the Ferrari so I flushed it and put in Wild Strawberry, which is way too light. :( Need to go back to the monaco or find something in-between. Also, the red Optima with Take-sumi tonight.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Yeah, even though I was exhausted I was also sort of keyed up.  Plus, I was waiting for the new NaPoWriMo 2022 daily prompt to get posted on the NaPoWriMo website, and that happens just after midnight.

As for the Morrison overlays?  Yeah, my first one, one of the gold-filled filigree overlay ringtops, has a semi-flex stub nib, so a lovely writer (but doesn't leave the house anymore because it has a bad habit of unscrewing itself from the cap when I've got it on the lanyard).  I actually paid more for it than I did for the Plum Demi 51, because it was SOOOO pretty and the guy I bought it from said it was restored and working (the nib was just a bonus ).

The sterling one I have to be a little more careful with because the tipping is worn -- I have to treat it as if it's an oblique nib, even though it's technically not.  But I had wanted one ever since I found out that they made them with the sterling filigree overlay, and I treated myself with one of the COVID stimulus checks.  I finally was able to get it repaired recently, at the Baltimore-Washington show (there weren't many repair people at the three shows I went to last fall).  But I still have to get a lanyard made for it.  And then at some point I need to get the other sterling overlay ringtop up and running; and the cheapie BHR one that I lucked into on eBay, right about the time the the auction was winding down so I was able to get it for IIRC the minimum plus shipping (to the tune of under $8 US).

The only Morrison that has had a not-great nib was the one full size one (I think might be a Tourist) -- it's okay, but tends to be a little scratchy.  But now, given the nib on the sterling filigree overlay one, I'm wondering if it's just a matter of the tipping being worn and that I will have to treat that nib as an oblique as well....

beautiful flexy OF nib. By far the best writer that I own. It lays down a nice XF line on the downstroke and a F line on the cross stroke under normal pressure. And under moderate pressure, it widens to a 3B+.

Wonderful, @ItwasLuck, thanks for sharing!

Minimalist sort of day...

  • Pilot Custom Heritage 912 with a posting nib and Van Dieman's Cradle Mountain Grey in my Bullet Journal (an A5 dotted Clairefontaine in a Lihit Lab cover)
  • Pilot Prera - the brown one - with fine italic nib (out of a Plumix) filled with Robert Oster Motor Oil for my long form journal (an A4 Clairefontaine)

Will work for pens...

Had to google NaPoWriMo.  🧐

Sounds like an interesting exercise.

Any chance of a quick snap of your Morrisons?

My pleasure.  😁

Which model did you go for?

Going with Parker again today. Parker 61, with a capillary filling system, and Heirloom cap. The nib is an absolute nail...and writes smoothly.

It was truly an impulse-buy, @mallymal1, a Conway Stewart 75, green marble, under 50€ including shipping. It will arrive at some point - the Dutch customs sometimes take over a month to process (but also, overall they're quite fast). I hope it's a good pen to start exploring, also because the ad said it's been recently serviced and it should write immediately.

@Chi That's a Fine nib? O gawd.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Very nice, @MarcoA63. Photos would be greatly appreciated - in particular, I am trying to picture the Swan 4460 and I have a very vague impression of the Montblanc 144 burgundy red. Thank you.

That would involve trying to figure out how to upload photos on the new software here (I miss the old "Upload" feature).  I'll figure it out eventually, but there was just too much on my plate in the past week to even think about it (I still have to have my husband scan and print off the checks I have to write for the trust fund taxes so I can get that paperwork in the mail).  And to finish up the laundry from the past weekend, and finish unloading stuff from the mini-van.

Today's pens (so far) have been:

1) the Mabie Todd Swan ringtop with the Parker Lucky Curve semi-flex nib on it -- Waterman Mysterious Blue.

2) Noodler's Cobalt Creaper, flex nib -- Birmingham Pens Herr's Island Ultramarine.

3) The sterling filigree overlay Morrison ringtop, effective oblique nib on it -- Waterman Tender Purple.

4) silver color Pilot Metropolitan, M nib -- Birmingham Pens Allegheny Observatory Celestial Blue.
