What pen(s) are you using today?

A Smug Dill

Recommended Posts

@Mr.Rene Interesting!  That Sheaffer No Nonsense between the Sheaffer calligraphy pen and the Parker 45 is very similar to one I was given recently, except for the barrel color and the design on the cap.  (Mine is red-orange and has an a F Italic nib on it.)

So far today, it's been the Pelikan M 120 Iconic Blue, mostly finishing up a fill of Edelstein Star Ruby.  Trying to decide whether to refill the pen or flush it (I'm trying to clear the "in rotation stash a bit before going to OPS, where I'm hoping to get some pens checked out/repaired -- which means I'll likely be inking those up before the weekend is over -- and I probably have too many pens in rotation as it is ALREADY....

I really can't fathom how A Smug Dill manages to keep as many pens in rotation as he apparently does -- I'm back to "Not putting anything into rotation until I get at LEAST two pens flushed out per one I want to ink up" regimen before the end of next week....

You do have an eclectic preference in choosing your fountain pens indeed!  Do most of them have a particular nib you get or something they have in common I wonder?

Yes,I have...all of them are fountain pens that they I have in common 😁😁😉...

Skyline has a kind of medium to broad wet nib

Aurora has medium a "toothy" nib

Sheaffer No Nosense has a Fine calligraphy nib

Sheaffer No Nosenes Clipper boat has a Fine wet

Parker 45 has a broad gold plated nib.

Pilot Justus has Hard/Soft adjustable nib

Jinhao has a medium steel wet nib

Regards all.

I'm on a Lamy Safari broad kick this week, I have 5 inked up - Dark Lilac, Petrol, Mango, Charcoal and Powder Rose, with Diamine Amazing Amethyst and Vivaldi (looking to see which is closest to Kyoto Sakuranezumi, Amethyst is winning by a hair but really I should try mixing the two); Wearingeul Floating Cloud; Iroshizuku Fuyu-gaki and Taccia Sabimidori. All matched to the appropriate pen colour. My new Pelikan M205 B Rose Quartz is sporting Edelstein Amber, which I still can't decide if I like or not. The pen is lovely, well it is since Cult Pens exchanged the Fine they sent in error!

Hi Ruth,

the Sheaffer No nonsense I called"Clipper Boat"is a kind of "Vintage one", was made 1980's years...

I don't know when mine was made.  The cap has a floral design on it.
I discovered that vintage Skrip Peacock Blue was too wet for the IF nib (it bled like crazy, even on the Miquelrius paper in my current journal), but when I refilled the pen with distilled water, it was much better behaved.

I am using a Conklin amber Duragraph filled with Waterman Serenity Blue ink today. The pen has a stub nib so it isn't always practical, but is enjoyable to use upon occasion.

I have this gorgeous pen with the 1.1mm stub nib as well. Mine currently has Diamine 150th Anniversary Terracotta ink in it. I write large enough to get along with 1.1mm stub nibs.

I just put a cartridge of Platinum Blue-Black in my UEF BelAge. I may have to report for jury duty tomorrow morning, so I am anticipating having to take notes on terrible paper. My last stint as a juror, they wouldn’t let me use my own paper, so I learned to use my narrowest nibs and driest inks.

Oh I did jury duty last week! They made us use bic pens and steno pads.

Today, I am using a Franklin-Christoph Model 19 one off ( It's Black with a Red and a White Band).

It's filled with PR Invincible Black and has a Broad CI.

Really? When I last had to, in 2022,  it was binders and copy paper, and I brought my pens.

I've gone Chinese today. My new Yellow Majohn V60 has been delivered this morning. I flushed the nib a few times, just to play it safe, and inked it with Diamine Grey. The nib is an EF/F, I would have never used it before, but there wasn't much else to choose amongst anyway, the lines put down are quite fine. The triangular shape is comfortable. Plastic feels a bit flimsy as does the piston mechanism, but it is writing without skipping and this is enough for me. Will it last? Surely if I treat it with respect, as all pens should be treated IMO. The barrel is one piece. Cap is slip on. It looks very much like the Omas 360 which I don't want to buy for a lot of reasons, mainly durability and quality assurance. So the V60 is as good as it gets 😊

I wrote my grocery list out with my blue fine flex Wahl-Eversharp Skyline. It is running out of ink, so I will be switching over to something else once that happens later.

Wondering if it depends on the jurisdiction.

The one time years ago I got called up for jury duty was before I started using fountain pens.  I was glad, though, that I had brought some knitting with me....  Most of the day we played musical chairs around the courtroom (it was a civil case about someone getting bitten by a dog, and I wasn't picked).

The "pay" I got for my time didn't cover my busfare to downtown plus lunch (people who came in from further away got more in compensation for their travel expenses).

ETA: I do know that I wasn't allowed to use a fountain pen when I went to vote in the PA Primary last spring to fill out the ballot.... :(

Hmmm.  Maybe I SHOULD have requested a mail-in ballot  (I've gotten THREE applications for getting a mail in ballot sent to me in the past week and a half.... :glare:).

Bexley Gemstone. The most effortless nib I've ever experienced.

Back when I did it in the 1990s, we were ordered to use the wooden pencils & top-spiral-bound 'Reporters' pads' that were provided for us.

(I suspect that the British Justice system wouldn't want to waste money on providing anything as fancy as Bic ballpoints for jurors.)

I was in a hurry today so I grabbed my "emergency" Platinum Preppy pen.  For such an inexpensive pen, it delivers solid performance.
