Would luv to see your results with that 2048.

[Flexible Extra Fine Falcon, for the non-Esters in the crowd. LOL]

& I'd bet you didn't get what you were expecting.

I kind've lucked into one (2048). It was on my 'Want-To-Try List' so, gave it a try & naahhhh. It's okay to write with but it's no Namiki Falcon, for sure!  To press that thing hard enough to flex, I'd be afraid of tearing the paper!

Another Estie I got in that group had a 1555 (Gregg) nib that I had been wanting to see how it would perform. Built for short, clean quick strokes endemic to Shorthand. What they didn't tell was the tip barely clears the feed, requiring the pen to be held extraordinarily more upright than my normal angle. As a result, the feed drags on the paper, painting 8-10mm swatches as it goes. Bah!

I got 99 problems but a BIC ain't one!

@Misfit -- Seems strange that on Rhodia peper your sample of Eclat de Saphir looks a LOT more purple than has been my experience with it.  Even on the Pelikan paper photo it looks purplish, which has not been my experience with the ink at all.
I actually bought a larger bottle of it than the standard 30 ml one because it works so well in the Parker 61s -- no issues with clogging the capillary system.  Even though it has zero water resistance.

I have a couple of Esties with 1555 nibs and that has not been my experience with them.  In fact, I was actually surprised at how WELL they wrote -- especially given that the 1xxx nibs have no tipping, just folded over tines.

Hmmm.  Maybe I just hold pens more upright in general?  (The only one probably I don't is the Sailor Pro Gear Slim with the zoom nib, and even then I don't take a lot of advantage of the nib).

ETA: Today's pen (so far) has been the Pro Gear Slim (Purple Cosmos, zoom nib), with old formula Sailor Jentle Sky High.

Hongdian A9 with Diamine Cool Green. I like this pen a lot, the section is very comfortable and the large nib is nice, but man I wish it came in a nib width of M or B.

Well, I haven’t taken any photos yet, but it feels very much like an Esterbrook dip nib, which I am more familiar with than their fountain pens, so that’s how I write with it. I will put it through its paces later and share my findings.

I’m pretty sure I hold my pens more upright than most folks, too. Love Jentle Sky High, it’s so pretty! I like the idea of zoom nibs but prefer a more italic line, I just wondered aloud if there’s a nib like that. Maybe I’ll ask around.

Yeah I hadn't used it for a while and had forgotten just how pretty a blue it is.

I actually tried a friend's pen with a zoom nib first, just to see if I could get used to changing the pen's angle to the page (I figured it might be nice for drawing with) but mostly don't play around with the angle, any more I tend to play around with the few pens I have that have flex nibs....

I’ve written with a few at pen shows and meetings, and found the experience similar to fude nibs regarding angles.  My writing becomes more illegible the bigger a round nib I write with, so I didn’t explore any further.

Have you any Omas's? I acquired a li'l Extra a few months ago and that has been one of the most fun nibs I've ever used. Good thing it was an Extra, too, cuz if it had been any smaller the dinky thing wouldn't have even been there! It's apparently designed for a 'lady's hand'. Let's just say, it looked much bigger in the pictures!

Also, any way you might post up a photo of your 1555 Gregg looking towards the feed? Or a profile shot might be better. i'd like to compare to mine & determine if maybe something's amiss with my setup. Somehow the feed doesn't look quite right.

Parker 61 with MB Irish Green ink. It'a been a while since I attempted to use it and always wondered if it sucked up any ink. After some flushing yesterday, last night I let it sit in ink for an hour and it gained 1.06gr in weight and has been writing well today. I think the pen is alive ;)

I bought a Retro 51 T-shirt that turned out to be a cotton and polyester blend. That type of Tee is too hot for me in the warm months. But with the chill, and the house getting down to 64°F inside, the Tee is fine. It’s a teal color, so I’m using the Retro 51 Peacock pen with 1.1mm stub nib filled from a sample of Iroshizuku Ku-jaku.

Tonight's pen was my Waterman Phileas fine point. Had someone look at me and say, wow, a fountain pen as I was recording notes for a meeting.

Lamy Studio with a fine steel nib for the ink Parker Quink (blue) on either a Clairefontaine or Oxford (Optik +) paper. I’d say it’s a good combination for daily writing, strong preference for the former, as the latter can be more slippery.

I'm interstate at the moment.  These are the 9 pens I selected this trip.

All were packed up with converters ranging from near empty to just filled. The only one which misbehaved was the burgundy P51 which spat a fair.bit of ink into the lid. All others were fine.
