A CS has kind of been on my want list for a while but getting one new was out of my budgetary range (and quite honestly, more than I think the pen is worth).  My first 18K nib, and it was much springier and expressive than I was expecting!

Today, so far, it's been the recently purchase Dark Blue Parker 45, steel F nib, with vintage Quink (Permanent?) Violet.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Conway Stewart pre-1950 pens are especially great. I say pre-1950 because I read quite some time ago that about then pen makers started to make nibs stiffer as Biros became more common and people changed how they held a pen.

A Pineider Metropolis. It's an unapologetically cheap pen. I was prepared to declare it to be junk and banish it to the nether regions of my collection. It's too light and feels plastic-y. I really don't think it would survive being in my heavy rotation of every-day pens. I could see it eventually developing cracks.

But heck if it isn't growing on me! It's fun to write with. The hinged clip is kinda cool (even if it seems fragile). I'm so used to pens that give spotty performance that when I find one that writes well out of the box I'm very happy.

I purchased it about the same time I purchased several different super-cheap Italian pens. If I get the time next week, I'll do a comparison of the bunch.

As soon as I locate it, I’ll be using the Kaweco DIY Sport I received for my birthday last month.

Found it on the table behind me, hanging out with other Kaweco pens. I forgot I put a blue ink in it.

The three I currently have in rotation are:

1981 Parker 45 TX, Blue, Medium nib and Blue Parker Quink.

1940s Sheaffer Balance Lever-Filler, Brown Striated, Fine nib, with Sailor “Georgia” USA Colors ink.

New Visconti Mythos Poseidon, Fine nib, Blue Visconti Ink.

The Visconti writes fairly well, but skips a bit.  The nib needs smoothed.  the Sheaffer writes like a dream and is a super silky writer.  The Parker,

however, is like a workhorse: It just writes perfectly all of the time and puts ink down like it’s meant to!

Sounds nice... how substantial is that Herbin ink?  Is it like Ajisai?

This is a favorite. I have it in my Jinhao 80 currently. It shimmers even in a EF nib. I’m going to use it tonight, along with a few others to be decided on spur of the moment.

Top 5 of 25 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Waterman’s 52V red ripple ring top, Herbin Vert de Gris

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Parker “51” Desk pen EF, Sailor Manyo Konagi

Yiren Giraffe IEF, Pilot Yama-Guri/sky blue holographic mica

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Yes, I am always surprised when I look at what I wrote, how nice it shimmers!

Non intercedere, sed dirigere.

I have no right to dictate what happens to those around me, but it is as a choice, and my choice is to dictate what happens after.

As for your TWSBIs?  YIKES!  <snip>

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

I was a fair fan of TWSBI, the only issue I had was my 540 lid cracked and that was entirely my fault. However just recently the 540 suffered near terminal stuck piston, I had a right job getting it out. Then the 580 did the same, but not as bad - it may have disliked the KWZ ink I had in it, then my Eco-T in neon yellow decided to get a slightly sticky piston, it freed up fine but when I filled it? All the ink poured straight out, fortunately back into the bottle. A closer look shows the piston isn't making a seal, and even after disassembly, clean and re-grease, it ain't sealing. Looks like the o-ring has deformed. For crying in a bucket. These are not cheap pens anymore, and that Eco-T hasn't been sat for that long. I'd rather they made a line of c/c pens in all honesty, less to go wrong! I think I'm leaning more towards Diplomat Magnums for cheap go-anywhere pens which write well above their pay grade. Oh well. I got a few years out of them.

Nice looking, and capless pens are convenient... and so much fun!

Currently most used pen: Lamy 2000, Makrolon <F> -- filled with Lamy Pink Cliff ink

All this TWSBI talk made me ink up my 530.   While I love the pen it’s the Pendleton Brown Bad Boy with Butterfly Wings nib that steals the show.  A smooth, wet cursive italic that flexes too!   Wish there were more available - I would buy another in a heartbeat!

I’ve never tried that ink. I’d describe the J Herbin ink as a non-shading blue ink. It’s very easy to read. I’m glad I have the tiny bottle of it, because I’m not as happy with non-shading inks as I am with shading inks.
