What pen(s) are you using today?

Your picture brings fond memories of a younger me despising Clairefontaine and buying Oxford notebooks, but liking the Clairefontaine covers better ;)

I am now on my way to take my 743 SFM out, and ponder for a few hours on the ink to use!

I’m using my little lapis Conklin ring top stub today- with the mystery purple ink it came with, in hopes of writing it out of ink. I also have to record the Caran d’Ache Hypnotic Turquoise in my ink journal, so my MB Mozart Mini 114 is also in use.

Pilot Silvern Dragon IB, Iroshizuku Kiri-Same

Currently inked:

1954 Pelikan 400; ‘F’ nib; Pelikan 4001 Blue-Black.

2020 Lamy 2000; ‘F’ nib; Rohrer & Klingner Sepia.

I expected the Sepia to look darker from the ‘wet’-writing 2000.

I am now curious to try the Sepia in the aforementioned 400, which is, by far, the ‘wettest’-writing pen that I own.
Its crisp ‘cursive italic’ nib makes 4001 Blue-Black look almost black, and it even overwhelms the capacity of Edelstein Sapphire for shading, instead laying-down a solid line of a gem-like blue.

How is that nib? I have a WA in mine and love it. But I’ve been tempted by the thought of a SFM more than once!

Is that a Level? I used to have one, but filling system was a pain. How do you fill yours with different colors?

An MB 144 marked "W Germany", so 35 years old or so. It was a gift and may have never been used because it looks and feels like new. It's a little small for my hand, but for a humble 144 it sure is a lovely writer.

Yes it is. I only use 2 colors: blue-black and turquoise. I refill the ink pots.

Hi LTM

I have similar feelings about ClaireFontaine paper 👎 and their covers.👍

My 743 SFM has sadly been under used so I am going to be using it more.

What kind of Oxford notebooks are you referring to?  I recently found out about the Oxford Optik notebooks, is that what you're referring to?

What ink did you decide to use in your 743?

Hey PGS,

As usual Nice pens and inks 😀👍  But what I want to ask is how similar is Caran d’Ache Hypnotic Turquoise to other turquoises?

The nib on my 743 SFM is not quite as soft/bouncy as the Fine nib on my much older Pelikan M800.  The line widths are very similar (see below).  It has it's own enjoyable character.  I like it a lot and have no reason not to recommend it 😀.  Funny you've been thinking about a SFM because I've been thinking about adding a WA.

My internet is finally back on after a massive outage, so some new Pics

The interesting thing about Konagi is that on Cosmo Snow paper it has a pink glow around it and on close inspection it's an outline ink.

Hey Mercian how have you been? 😀

Would love to see some samples from those pens.

I've found some pretty good shading from the 4001 Blue-Black, but never had any shading from Edelstein Sapphire.  Maybe the pens I have it in are too wet, like that M800 above?  What did you use to get shading from Sapphire?

On Inkswatch, all of the recommended inks are really close. I have a few inks that might be close, like Herbin Bleu Pervenche and 4001 Turquoise.  I need to dig tgem out and compare. Kaweco Paradise Blue is also supposed to be close.

Thank you for the nice pen compliment, it is appreciated.
