t rivalled my Lamy Safari as my most disliked pen.

Don't get me wrong.  It's quite a nice pen now that I find the ink it likes.  The Safari however...

I can see why!

The juicy EB nib on this Duofold is perfect for this ink. Really gives it a chance to shade, sheen, and shine.

Amongst others, today I've been using a favourite - Geha 725 Goldschwinge - which I guess was probably made around the same time I was.

No, you are not.  Though I use my pens differently than you do yours, I also have tiers, some shown on Tomoe River paper below:

Uncharacteristic as it may appear, I'm using a Hero 616 this week. I've been taking a careful look at my personal collection to see if any winnowing is in order. My brand-new never before used Hero 616 demanded to be filled, so it was, with Pelikan 4000 Schwarz. I won't bother with a photograph since everyone here has either seen one or seen a Parker 51, to which it bears an uncanny, certainly coincidental resemblance. What an absolutely delightful writer! Fine to extra fine, plenty of flow. The grip perhaps isn't as firm as a 51's, since it's extruded plastic and not lucite, but the pen does not feel cheap.

In summary, the exercise is to see if there are pens in my collection to let go, but I can cheefully say that my Hero 616 won't be one of them.

So, I've discovered that which pen I use is dictated a lot by which pen is 1. Inked and ready to go or 2. Clean.  I seem to have a propensity to avoiding cleaning pens.  large.PXL_20220323_000320821.jpg.ddd82673665c71c51af8e7e6a56222c4.jpg

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

And the truth will set you free!

Go forth (or fifth) and clean thy pen

And you shall write rightly

And find happiness in the

Meanings, (and for you and anyone else who loves color) and

Colors of your words.

Then I suspect you would be glad not to have bought the Diamine Inkvent calendar Red Edition last year. Not only did I have to keep finding suitable, uninked pens day after day in which to fill the inks for my wife in December, I now have to clean them out as well after she has finished using up a fill. Just last night I cleaned out five of them, along with my three Rotring Initial pens (all filled with ink from the Monteverde inks in the Noir collection) that I have neglected for months. All that soaking, sonicating, flushing and drying took ages!

Many of mine stay inked, and because I value cap seal effectiveness in fountain pens, quite a lot of them would be ready to go on any given day; but the nature of what I'm writing, and (more importantly?) the type of paper on which I'm writing, dictates which pen(s) I use. For example, I can avoid unacceptable levels of ink bleed-through on 100gsm paper in Paperblanks Flexis softcover notebooks only by using a handful of pens (often selected for their large ink capacity, e.g. Wing Sung 699 and Opus 88 Picnic) I've tuned to write especially ‘dry’ for journalling use primarily.

Then there are the newly arrived pens that need to be tested, before the window of opportunity to raise complaints of DOA or apparent product defects closes. So, last night and today, I was in a rush to clean and use my new Diplomat Excellence A2 Oxyd Brass that arrived just before I went away for nine days and didn't bring it (or any bottled ink or cartridges, just ten filled pens in a pen ‘wallet’) with me.
