Wow! I didn’t know that Edelstein Topaz could be made to do that!

No wonder you love that paper 🙂

Today so far it's been the freebie Pilot Plumix (swag from the talk on the history of Vanishing Points at B/W), now that I got the Con-B converter for it installed.  Inaugural ink was Iroshizuku Tsuyu-kusa.  A bit of serious burping/bleedthrough at first, but the pen seems to have settled down.

Was able to (somewhat) compare yesterday's and today's journal entries.  Think I like Tsuyu-kusa a tad more than Namiki Blue, color-wise, but can't tell if it's just the difference in nib widths between the F nib on the Decimo and the IM nib on the Plumix.  And of course still really bummed that Tsuyu-kusa was discontinued....

Isn't Tsuyu-kusa ever so slightly green leaning compared to Pilot blue? Did you try Sailor Ink studio 440 and 443? I think you also have some Diamine Aster, but this one lacks lubrication.

I wouldn't call it green leaning.  It is more of a cerulean blue, so a bit lighter and brighter than Namiki Blue (but again, that may partly be due to the difference between the IM nib on the Plumix vs. the F nib on the Decimo) -- my initial reaction was that they were really similar, seeing them side by side from one page to the next) but as Tsuyu-kusa dried, there was more difference between them.

I do have Diamine Aster (from the original "Flowers" set) but it's been so long since I used it I don't remember what it looks like offhand.

I've tried a couple of the Sailor Studio inks but not those (I was trying to find a better behaved color match to Noodler's Kung Te Cheng -- but the inks I tried from that line weren't close enough a match on the page).

Today, I'm writing with my impulse buy Sailor Pro Gear Every Rose Has It's Thorns with a 21kt  EF  Medium Fine nib. I'm so used to German sized nibs, this really feels like I'm writing with a needle. Maybe the nib just needs adjusting? (I bought it used.) Or maybe it's the Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses ink it's filled with? I haven't used either enough to tell yet.  Total rose theme today, complete with the rose gold fittings on the pen:

Nahvalur Horizon Dusk, Diamine presidential blue. The pen has gone from bright sparkly pinks, turquoise, teal and light blue to dark blue that is spreading round and down the pen from the piston nob to around half way down. Currently running presidential blue ink, was on Shin Kai.

That's a pretty pen!  I don't tend to like the Sailor pens where they seem to have swapped out the cap finials and sections from other pens (makes them look like they're scrambling to use up spare parts).  But this one, basically seeming to be from a single piece of rod stock, is much more attractive.

And I'm now minded that I haven't used BSiAR in a long time.... :headsmack:  My bottle dates back to when the formula got changed due to issues getting the component dyes a number of years ago....

That is one pretty pen!

The writing actually looks quite thick to me, compared to my 1911 EF. Maybe it's the ink?

As for the feeling of writing with a needle, these are best with a lubricating ink, smooth paper, and a light hand...an acquired taste too!

Thanks guys! @Lithium466 It's actually a medium fine nib. I wasn't quite awake when I did my journal entry this morning. I think the nib just needs adjusting as it's a bit dry and scratchy, but I'll try some Noodler's American Eel in it next time. Cactus Fruit should be a good match.

The paper's a Graphic Image journal, which is usually very fountain pen friendly, if a tad too absorbent to really show off a sheening ink as well as it might. I've been writing with a feather light hand with my new Montblanc 146 Calligraphy Flex on this same journal and it's been a joy. It feels like when you're cutting gift wrapping paper and the scissors just start to glide through it. Maybe the tines on the Sailor have some gunk in them blocking the ink flow?

@inkstainedruth Well, that explains why I like this newer bottle of BSiAR so much less than the sample I tried of it years back. Mystery solved!

The rose gold accents on this pen really complement the color. Now, I kind of want to buy the new Pelikan M200 Rose Gold.

Wow, perfect pen and ink match!

@AmandaW I quite like your Levenger Pinkly Pen as well. I bet it look great with its eponymous ink, too.

@DilettanteG thank you for noticing. Today I’ll be using a TWSBI Eco-T Rosso red with 1.1mm stub nib to finish yesterday’s page in my log notebook. For today’s entry, I’ll use a Levenger True Writer French Impressionists with F nib. It has J Herbin Terre de Feu ink or at least a little of it.

@DilettanteG if you put your new Sailor pen next to your Pelikan Grand Places Place de la Concorde, would they be similar colors?

Oh that is my bad, I see your edit now, in the post I quoted! Line width looks adequate then, if certainly very dry. Maybe floss the tines, see if they are properly spread, etc.?

I do have a 1911L MF that took some time to adjust (I kept it dry as to keep the lines fine enough, buying MF was a mistake), and it's still not getting along with all the inks. I'm not sure if related or not as it's only a sample of 4, but the rhodium plated nibs I got were wetter out of the box compared to non rhodium plated.

I just bought some brass sheets for the first time a few months ago. I've only use them once, but wow, what a difference they make!

I've gotten so spoiled using Pelikan piston fillers all the time. It's pretty rare they choke on anything. Cartridge converters have never worked as well for me.

@RedPieI bought a couple of TWSBIs used from the same seller as my Sailor Pro Gear. They are shocking nice little pens for such a reasonable price.

Various, but mainly Lady Sheaffer with MB Starwalker space blue. That and refilled after a thorough clean Lamy Studio with Diamine Onyx Black. The Nahvalur Horizon Dusk broke last night. Piston failed, and also came away from pen while attempting to get a stain out caused by ink getting where it shouldn’t and bypassing the piston.
