It's been a while ... so to re-vitalize and restore; got Inked Up!

(Left to Right)

  • TWSBI Eco Blue Bronze F - Pilot Blue Black - impulse buy from Anderson Pens
  • Ranga Model 3 with FNF Flexible Steel Jowo - Noodler's Proctor's Ledge - Peyton Street Pens
  • Platinum 3776 Carnelian Music nib - wobbly loose music nib 😞 Platinum Classic Iron Gall Cassis
  • Opus 88 Koloro Demo with Pilot Parallel 4.5 mm - Noodler's Whaleman's Sepia
  • Pilot Capless LS - F CU from Linda Kennedy at Indy Pen Dance - Iroshizuku Murasaki-Shikibu
  • Opus 88 Omar with Ralph Reyes Sequel Nib SF pen show 2019 - Pilot Blue Black
  • Newton Sumpter - FPR Ultra Flex Jowo steel plastic feed - Noodler's Proctor's Ledge
  • Noodler's Boston Safety F flex - Noodler's Proctor's Ledge
  • Esterbrook Estie with Monty Winnfield Vario Jowo 6 with overfeed - Pilot Blue Black
  • FPR Guru 5.5 flex steel - Noodler's Proctor's Ledge
  • CONID Kingsize Titanium #8 stub - Pilot Blue Black
  • PenBBS 487 with Pilot Parallel section - Pilot Blue Black + other unknown junk sample vial ink

Love em all but bolded pens really recall that sheer pleasure of just writing.

Notes:

  • When the old hand cramps up, I find the bigger pens bring relief.
  • I miss soft flex and FNF and FPR steel is a pleasure. Ranga Model 3 with that hint of FNF flex dispels the need to ink up the Waterman 52 or 5.
  • Because the Montblanc Bespoke Signature Nib reality distortion field is looking far into the distance, Opus 88 with Pilot Parallel is proving to be a capable substitute. A practiced hand reveals line variation.
  • Shawn Newton with Ebonite is a must have. Surprisingly FPR with a plastic feed can keep up with ultra flex converter fed. Some re-priming is needed so quick access to the converter with the precision Newton barrel threading is a godsend.
  • I miss Ralph Reyes Regalia Writing Labs
  • The modern Estie is underrated: classic lines, slip and seal, any Jowo nib.
  • Monty Winnfield is the next gen nib wunderkind
  • There may be copycats, but custom engraved, custom ground, CONID is an industrial workhorse, hard to beat. Girth appreciates with age. They know how to make a clip.

I used an Apple Green Kaweco that was done in collaboration with Cult Pens. It has a 1.1mm stub nib, and has a cartridge of Kaweco Palm Green in it.

I'm playing with my new Scrikss 419, a cheap'n'cheerful yellow piston-filler that is styled like a smaller Pelikan M200 and feels like a lower-end 1980s office pen. The piston filling system is very effective, though, a couple of strokes of the piston giving an almost complete fill, and it writes beautifully with a smooth and wet nib. All in all, I like it.

Nice write up. 👍😀

I didn't know about Monty Winnfield.  <-- Good to know.

Is your Vario the wet noodle version?

I didn't notice the dark outline around the blue letters.  Interesting.

Letter writing with TWSBIs, a Transparent Purple F filled with Sailor Chu-Shu and a Christmasy Royal Jade F  filled with Edelstein Olivine (that nib needed some taming and still writes more like a medium). 💜🎄

Will work for pens...

I second your vote on Scrikss 419s.  Amazon has been all over the place with stocking these in the last few years, from having only one or two, to having the entire color range.  At the moment there are few colors available, but one seller, shipping through Amazon Prime only stocks Scrikss pens & pencils, and has several colors of the 419 under $20.

Leonardo Arborea Beech. A limited edition for Stilograph Corsani in faceted ebonite with a 14Kt #8 1.1 stub nib. It is a handsome pen with a wonderful nib. A joy to write with.

I’m going to fill the Moonman C1 I think. It has deer, stars, snowflakes and trees, so it’s a Christmas pen. I deserve it for today’s log book entry because I now have the lights on the tree. Garland comes after I get Taco Bell food, which I’ll be doing soon. Oh, l’ll fill the pen with Diamine Ho Ho Ho.

edit: I tried the pen, and it had enough ink left in it to write most of my page for the day. Hopefully it can write 5 more lines.

no just the standard steel Jowo with the titanium housing, non flex. It writes like a gold nib, very soft pencil like quality, my guess is probably due to the overfeed and Jeremiah's tuning. My Pilot 743 flexes more and 743 is not a flex nib, so no flex on this Vario. The one thing I found troublesome was hand tightening the screw in unit without pushing the overfeed to one side to maintain center and not bending the overfeed from too much pressure while grasping the fins and overfeed. That Vario will not be leaving the Estie anytime soon 😅

update edit:

added a few more (L to R)

  • Diplomat Nexus with Nemosine 0.6 stub I think - Pilot Iroshizuku Asa Gao - left in pen since Oct 16, a couple of months, pen is more like an ink vial with a nib 🤣 never dries out
  • Same Estie with MW Vario
  • Pilot Custom 743 with FA - swapped the con-70 from the Yukari Royale - Pilot Blue
  • FPR QuickDraw with ultra flex - Noodler's Proctor Ledge - I have many FPR models and really like the magnetic cap for quick deployment
  • Opus 88 Halo with Noodler's Heart of Darkness. Relieved nib dry out with wetting and opening the back piston for more flow, inked since July 2022!!
