I've had to use Ink Zap

I wanted to ask you about Zap.  I've used all kinds of expensive stuff to get ink off my fingers and some of them had a faint smell of ammonia. I found that a couple of squirts of Windex on a paper towel square takes off all the ink in seconds and evaporates to nothing just as fast.

Sunday I was using a Faber-Castell Loom, Medium Nib with Diamine Polar Glow, a Sailor Mini21 w Sailor Yonaga, and a Kaweco Sport w Colorverse Gravity Wave

Love Diamine Polar Glow, 🙂👍

Can't figure out what to do with Yonaga, it's so dark....🤪

I’m using a Levenger True Writer Oceanic Gray with M nib, filled with GvFC Garnet. I got that ink because it was my Papa’s birthstone. I’m glad I got it because I like it better than Pelikan Edelstein Garnet.

Edelstein Garnet is very bright 🙂   GvFC Garnet is more subdued... 👍😀

This pen is a bit too heavy to be a workhorse pen to use comfortably for long writing sessions, but its cap seal effectiveness is surprisingly good, and its EF nib strikes a very good balance between smoothness and feedback.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Did I only imagine it? I was pretty sure Pennonia Zöldike ink is supposed to have some water resistance; but when I dumped this sheet into a tray of water, just about every trace of the ink washed off the page after just a one-minute soak and the agitation arising from pulling the sheet back out.

I think it works pretty well (although it has occurred to me that anything with pumice/grit in it -- like the Lava soap my dad used to use after working on the family cars doing stuff like changing the oil, might work as well).

I'd be a little nervous about using Windex on my skin.  I just looked up the ingredients and would also be a little cautious about using it especially when cleaning up after using an iron gall ink, since one of the ingredients is ammonium hydroxide.

ETA: Ink Zap comes in large enough jars that it took me a couple of years to go through the first one I bought (and just opened the new jar recently).

What happens with ammonium hydroxide and iron gall ink?

Windex isn't going to hurt you.  Haven't we used it for years without rubber gloves...  CluelessMe gets more Windex on my hands cleaning my iPad screen and TV than I do wiping off some ink. 🤪

Well, I'm thinking that the ammonia isn't going to react well to the IG content; I mean, I was taught to use ammonia solution to flush out pens -- EXCEPT when you're flushing out IG inks (in which case you want to use vinegar solution so you don't have a bad chemical reaction between the different pH levels....

And Windex on skin just sounds like a bad idea.... YMMV....

Ammonia can irritate or chemically burn skin. It’s also terrible for your lungs. I can’t use it to clean because the fumes can kill birds and aggravates my husband’s asthma.

Finally got myself a 823 M nib. I swapped all of my other 823 into FA nib and the original F nib were rather dry (I feel they are drier than 74 F)

so this is what everyone is talking about huh ?
On some paper (like super smooth Iroful, the M nib is almost too juicy )

I used a Kaweco AL Sport Anthracite with a F nib.  It has a cartridge of Kaweco Midnight Blue installed.

Windex is only a .05 solution but you're probably right. 👍

The size-15 18K gold F nib on my Pilot Custom Enjyu is just about too juicy for my liking — too slick and doesn't lend itself to making pen strokes with clinical premeditation and surgical precision. Can't comment on size-15 14K gold F nibs such as factory-fitted on Custom 743 and 823 models, though.

Seem to remember it never hurt Gus in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Mine (743 F) was just about to my liking: medium flow, and just a hint of feedback. Middle of the road fit for various purposes, papers and inks.
Surgical precision and crisp lines, however, no. That are what my Platinum and maybe Sailor (EF) are for.

In retrospect, I think a 743 in EF would see more use.
