What pen(s) are you using today?

Today I continue to try and run some pens dry: Sailor Clear Candy F2 inked with CX-11, and the Nonami Chinese F with Dominant Industry Pearl Series Lapis Lazuli. As a nod to@USG I will add that I am using Jordi Labanda for Miquelrius lined notebook paper in A4, very old letterhead paper that my college was getting rid of in 1994, and Cosmo Air Light.

Top 5 of 19 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Salz Peter Pan 18k gold filled filligree fine flex, Waterman Serenity Blue

Pilot Silvern Dragon IB, Iroshizuku Kiri-Same

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

If there’s a pen show coming your way, that’s the best place to start. You can talk to the artisan and try their grinds, and they can hand the pen to you to try so they can fit it to you.
If you like their work and they get to know your hand, you can send them other pens and work out what you want through correspondence. It was a really fun experience and I got to watch him work on all sorts of pens and look at his pens for sale while waiting.  Plus, if you find something else that you like at the show and it’s not quite right you can get it fixed right away. Some pen shops that sell vintage or second hand will also have a nibmeister come in every so often, my local does.

You’re very welcome for the link. The Lotts are great.

Do you have the info on the pen show? Thanks for the heads up.

You can check this site for your area:

There’s also a forum here that lists shows.

You're lucky!  The closest show for me is 3-1/2 hours away.  The furthest of the ones I've actually been to, the Chicago Show (the year it was moved to the fall), was a two-day trip each way (I have to stop every couple of hours to take a break and stretch my legs so I'm not completely crippled up), and I was completely exhausted by the time I got home.

I did stop at a bunch of antiques places across Ohio and Indiana on the way out and back (figured that since I was going to have to stop I might as well have fun in the process).  Did find a Sheaffer No Nonsense with an Italic M nib in a booth in one place in the process.

Did you travel by motorcycle? I used to travel quite a bit throughout the US by bike.

The family is almost complete! Just one more to add. I just don't know what the "final" one should be.

Oh HELL no....

I VERY briefly dated a guy who had a motorcycle when I was a freshman in college, and he gave me a ride around  where I got to wear the helmet -- but when we went to the movies he brought his car instead.  As opposed to another guy who gave me a ride back to my dorm from the campus coffee house who said, "Oh, you don't need to worry about a helmet -- they're not required in CT!  All you need is eye protection, and your glasses are good enough!" 🤬  And THAT guy had a chopper, so the back part of the seat (where I was) was higher than the part where HE was....

Today's pen has been the Parker Vector reboot Looney Toons "Tasmanian Devil, F nib, with Platinum Classic Green.  Found the box on the floor under my desk while looking for something else and was going -- "Oh, been a while since I used this...."

Such a nice shade of green....

It sounds like you had fun. 😁

I had a chopper when I was much younger. Did the work myself. She sure was purty.

As tempting as the Butterfly would be, I want a MB that isn't the typical black/gold cigar. I really like the new 146 with the sterling cap. Yet it's still a black resin pen at heart.

Um.  No.  Does no work for you?  The one time wasn't too, too bad, but I wasn't overly comfortable either.  The time without wearing a helmet?  Scared the cr@p out of me.

No, I like a roof over my head and four doors and seatbelts/shoulder harnesses and airbags....  Heck I remember when I was a little kid, my dad INSTALLING seat belts in the back seat of the car we had at the time, in preparation for the 2 week trip to visit my mother's family in WV.  A guy my dad worked with could not believe my brother and and I would sit in a car for a two day trip without crawling all over the place, and my mom said my dad told him "They don't KNOW how to be in a car any OTHER way...."

The one time in my life I rode in a car without being strapped in was when I was an adult, and visiting my (now) husband for the weekend at an event for the organization we met through.  He wasn't feeling well, so he arranged for me to get to the evening site with a friend.  I'm sitting in another guy's lap in the front passenger seat and trying to reach for the should harness and the guy whose car it was was going, "Oh, don't worry about that -- the car doesn't have an inspection sticker...." :yikes:  I think that scared the cr@p out of me even more than being on the motorcycle without a helmet.  And the motorcycle ride was about 6 blocks from the campus coffeehouse to my dorm.  The other time?  Was from CMU to a church hall on the other side of Oakland (about 15-20 blocks, but basically on the same road for most of the trip, and a 1-way road at that....

Today started far too early, so to cheer myself up I'm writing today exclusively with my Santini Libra Capri, with a fine nib and a bellyful of Diamine Sapphire.

Day 15 of a self-inflicted 30 days using just one pen: a Sailor Snowmoon with a 14k MF nib. And I'm beginning to like it! The ink is a mix of Doyou and Black (cos it started with a Black cartridge and when it got low I realised I had no spare converter or Sailor Black to top it up).

It's been pretty cool getting to know a pen properly.

Will work for pens...

Consider looking for a 344. These are marvelous pens and not terribly expensive.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.
