Today's it's been the Gold and Black al-Star, F nib, newly refilled with Robert Oster Astorquiza Rot; and the Noodler's Forbidden City Konrad, flex nib, still with Noodler's Heart of Darkness.

Haven't posted here in a while. I am using an Esterbrook from the late '30 or early '40 grey celluloid "Dollar" with a 2556 nib and Waterman ink.

Yes, this Wyvern is a 404. The one coming (impulse buy) is a 690.

The paper I was using is a notepad given to me by an associate is also named Paul. It is heavy rough paper. While I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gift the paper is not the best. I'm trying to use up the pad rather simply recycling it.

I'll post the requested photos later.

Pictures as promised,

You should add that to green pen thread.

Or great a green pen thread.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

  • Lady Sheaffer tulle finish with Red Slovenian ink - first time I saw that finish
  • An orange Five Below with my favorite outline ink, Shikiori Kin-Mokusei
  • A grey Five Below with Smoky Quartz
  • Green Moonman 80 (Parker 45 clone) with that nice green CX-14 ink with the gold powder
  • Blue nonami Chinese c/c demonstratior <--- I couldn't find this one...
  • Sailor Clear Candy- CX-11- that purple ink with gold powder must be something !

How does the Moonman 80 compare to your Parker 45s?

Today I used my freshly-inked Sailor Pro Gear EF Daisy White with Troublemaker’s Foxglove, which is just such a wonderful ink. Like every day, I also used my Platinum #3776 Century SF Laurel Green with Platinum Carbon Black — I am really not fond of the looks of this pen at all, and yet it is by far my most-used pen. It, like Carbon Black, is just so reliable.

Funny thing, that MB was a graduation gift. I let the feeling of the broad nib and the words of my dealer convince me to choose it, but it would overwhelm my tiny handwriting, so I barely used it. I finally had it reground, and it’s like a whole new pen. It might be a combination of having to use reading glasses now and the italic grind, but it’s so much easier to use and my letter counters are visible. Of course, now I want more slim MBs (and Pilots, Pelikans, and…).

Today’s pens, besides the 144, are 2 Sailor Clear Candy: the gold trim has Wearingeul Wayfarer, the black a Chinese purple with gold powder labled CX-11.  Coincidentally, all have ️ caps.

How does the Moonman 80 compare to your Parker 45s?

The nonami Chinese pen looks a bit like a Pilot 78g, I think. Same feed design and general pen body shape.  The green Moonman 80 is rather tight and dry compared to a Parker 45, but all of my 45s have been either used constantly for decades, or have gold nibs. I need to open the nib up a bit, maybe try a different ink. I’ll try that today.

PS: The Jack Frost looks amazing in both nib widths, on both papers. It’s going in one of my carts.

I'm using a deep green FauxFari with 'Sailor's Green Gray,' which I suspect is an iron gall ink, so it stays in that pen only.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

I've found a lot of the Chinese nibs are initially on the dry side. 🤷‍♂️

Hey SK... How can you tell if a modern ink is an iron gall ink?

Today:

Among other pens, I was writing with my Pelikan M600 (F) with Diamine Majestic Blue ink.  For some reason I felt that the pen was writing "dry" so I decided to add some Iroshizuku Asa=Gao in a 1:1 mix to increase the flow.  Well that didn't work out very well because the pen immediately became clogged and wouldn't write, so off to wash it out and start again.  Now it has PR DC Supershow Blue, a much wetter ink.  It's writing OK but because the nib is a fine, the color isn't as dark as I'd like it.... we'll see....

Today I was mostly using my Pelikan M800 Traditional Chinese Demonstrator F (Diamine Kong Girls), with a side of Pilot Custom 823 Fujiyama Blue EF (Graf von Faber-Castell Yozakura) and Sailor Pro Gear Daisy White EF (Troublemaker Inks Foxglove).

The M800/Kong Girls combo is one of my absolute favourites!
