What pen(s) are you using today?

Blue Parker Super 21 with black Quink, but I don’t think this pen likes that ink- lots of hard starts. I haven’t used this pen very much so I don’t know what is causing it to do that.

Top 5 of 19 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Salz Peter Pan 18k gold filled filligree fine flex, Waterman Serenity Blue

Pilot Silvern Dragon IB, Iroshizuku Kiri-Same

I've read that black Quink can be troublesome.  I have it in a hooded Jinhao, hadn't used it in a while, very hard start.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

That certainly could be an explanation (i.e., all the new inks on the market).  But I've also noticed that a lot of people on here seemed to overlook it just in general, while extolling the virtues of Asa-gao (pretty color but I got tired of writing a page only to suddenly have a big drop of ink roll down the nib and go splat on the page.).  And while I LOVE Kon-peki, sometimes I don't want that shade of blue.

I've had that happen too, what's up with that?

Is this happening if you pause while writing or if you down the pen for a while?

I like that style of pen... 👍😀  Very classy in "Black".👍  How does it write?

Very smooth...  somehow it reminds me a Pelikan M800.

It happens when I start writing. I have to wet the nib, or squeezing the aerometric filler to get it to start.  It’s no 51, and possibly my least favorite Parker these days.

Which is odd, because in my first 45, which has a medium ink, it was just perfectly behaved and writing with it was like dancing on ice -- perfectly smooth and free-flowing.

Today it's been the Dove Gray 51 Vac, F (EF?) nib, still with Robert Oster Sydney Lavender.

For a pale color ink coming out of a narrow nib, it's still very legible on the page, and I see a full bottle of it in my stash in the near future.

My prima donna Duofold Centennial hates black Quink, and only takes the blue, turquoise, or blue black Quink ink.
The dratted not so Super 21 now has the hood stuck inside the cap. The nib section and filler came out with the barrel and the hood did not.

The Pilot Kakuno Papa Blue received a few weeks ago still had plenty of Pilot Blue ink in it so I wrote my journal with that. Too cold and lazy to find anything else.

It will be another Kakuno tomorrow cos an orange one arrived yesterday and I just filled it from a sample of Diamine Burnt Sienna (thankyou Smug). 🧡

Will work for pens...

Sounds like the ink is drying out in the feed and on the nib.  I have a lot of pens that have caps that don't seal very well and dry out.  Doesn't matter if they're cheap or expensive.  I just picked up a Waterman that I haven't used in a while and I had to put a couple of drops of water on the nib-feed juncture to get it going.  Then I looked at the cartridge and the Waterman blue ink was (mostly) dried out.  Took my syringe and filled it 3/4 with water.  Haha, it's working fine now.  Wrote 3 A5 pages on Iroful paper.  I forgot what an impressively smooth writer it is. 😀

That’s a gorgeous pen, very art deco. I would forgive that one for drying out.

It’s been enough of a problem for some pens that Binder wrote: “Toward the middle of the scale fall the vast majority of inks, including Aurora, Pelikan, Parker Quink (except the black, which scores surprisingly low because it exhibits serious flow issues in Parker pens)”  The majority of my Parkers are fine with it, but I have one or two that don’t do well with it at all.

*Sorry about the small font, it happened when I copied and pasted the quote and stayed little ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@USG -- That Waterman Boucheron :puddle: pen is GORGEOUS!  Only now I want one.... :wallbash:

For me, today it's been the Noodler's Forbidden City Konrad, flex nib, with Noodler's Heart of Darkness.

I actually used a +/- $ 10 Manuscript pen because I needed a fine nib pen.

I will say it isn't the nicest looking pen about, but the nib is fantastic for the price.  And no, it isn't a folded nib.

Today's journal pen is an orange Pilot Kakuno Fine with Diamine Burnt Sienna. The ink, from a sample, is exactly the colour I had in mind for the pen - orange without being neon or edging into brown. The only trouble being that it doesn't write anywhere near as smooth as the Pilot Blue in the Blue Kakuno used yesterday. Is it the new nib? The blue is pretty new too. Is the Diamine orange ink a little drier or less lubricated than the Pilot Blue? Not sure. I do like the colour though.

I've been using a Pelikan White Tortoise that arrived about 10 days ago almost every day since I got it. Inked with Hatsukoi for one day then switched to KWZ Grey Lux, a beautiful color for a lovely, smooth writing pen.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.
