What pen(s) are you using today?

Today it's been the dark blue Pilot Decimo, stub nib, with Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuyu-kusa.

Really don't understand why Pilot discontinued this color -- it's a lovely, soothing, restful blue.

Usually things like that happen when people are not buying enough for extended periods of time. Which might have been a result of the seemingly huge increase in the number of new inks and manufacturers in the last few years.

That certainly could be an explanation (i.e., all the new inks on the market).  But I've also noticed that a lot of people on here seemed to overlook it just in general, while extolling the virtues of Asa-gao (pretty color but I got tired of writing a page only to suddenly have a big drop of ink roll down the nib and go splat on the page.).  And while I LOVE Kon-peki, sometimes I don't want that shade of blue.

Today I got out one of my wife's various gifts for me -- a Montblanc Meisterstück No. 72 with what was probably a fine nib at the time (line width with MontBlanc-Simplo Black ink with SuperCleaner SC21 in the gold plastic "space capsule" bottle is only very slightly wider than Jinhao 51A XF with Bad Black Moccasin diluted 1:1).  It's doing quite nicely.  Also in use today are my emerald Himalaya stub, Sheaffer's school pen F, and Jinhao 51A XF (all with Heart of Darkness), and a Platinum Plaisir with a 0.5mm nib and Noodler's Rattler Red Eel.

Lovely combo I'm sure! I bought a Decimo in pearl white when I went through a white pen phase, but should have gone with the blue instead...I will have to correct that mistake soon!

As for Tsuyu-kusa, maybe it was too soothing or restful to sell well within the Iroshizuku line (I would have thought Ajisai would go first), or maybe it was too close to regular Pilot blue?

Good, quality made pens but not fantastic (in my opinion, of course)

Louis is a rather large pen, about Montblanc 146 size. Not very heavy, but heavier than Montblanc, about 30-32 grams. Nib — Bock #6, 18k, very well polished, very smooth, rather wet. Screw cap, c/c. Overall quality is high, nice looking.

Must de — slim pen (I don't really like thin pens, although I have about 8-10 in my collection). Pen is very similar to Montblanc Noblesse type 4 or Dunhill Gemline. I think that this pen has the same nib as in Noblesse, but with ebonite feed. Writes without complaint: not dry, not wet, smooth enough. C/c, slip cap.

Good pens, but I prefer Montblanc :)

Thank you very much - that's great information. I didn't know that Cartier used other makers' nibs. I mostly see Must de Cartier models, a very occasional Diabolo, and I don't recall ever seeing a Louis here.

I am already into lacquered early models from ST Dupont and I don't think it makes sense for me to extend myself to another brand with a somewhat similar cachet as Dupont. Plus I am not sure Cartier's styling jibes with my aesthetic and I'm happy with my Gemlines, including their nibs.

Dupont's early lacquered pens are definitely very good. I really love my Olympias. Mostly I collect Monbtlanc, and after Montblanc my favorite pens are Dunhill and S.T. Dupont.

I am mostly focused on vintage Japanese pens and Duponts (Montparnasse and earlier). After those, my favorites are Dunhill Gemline, Waterman Le Man 100, and the Parker Premier that's based on the 75. (You might guess that I like simple cylindrical designs ...)

I haven't tried Pilot Blue, so I wouldn't know.

The Dark Blue was my second choice for Decimo color (the first being the Light Grey).  At least they're now selling the Dark Blue in the US -- AFAIK, Pilot STILL doesn't seem to sell the Light Grey here.  I got one through someone who had contacts in Japan but lost it, then got the replacement one on eBay from a vendor in Japan; and even with -- at the time -- $13 US for economy air mail shipping, I STILL saved money over the US distributor markup after Pilot USA told me that they didn't carry the Light Grey due to a "marketing decision"....  (Their loss.... [shrug].)

I just looked at the ink sample on Vanness- there were blank spots in tbe sample!  There’s bound to be an ink that tames your firehose,

@USG whether it matches your pen or not remains to be seen.

Encouraging.... let's see what happens..

I’m using, and have used today a TWSBI Swipe Prussian Blue with a 1.1mm stub nib. It is filled with Diamine Prussian Blue.  I’ve also used a Jinhao 82 in coffee brown, with J Herbin Cafe des Iles ink, and a Faber-Castell Grip 2010 In turquoise with green dots, filled with GvFC Violet Blue.

very nice @Karmachanic - with the pilot nib ci aftermarket i suppose?

Yes.  Oxonian kindly ground the Hakase branded Pilot nib for me.  Ryo-san was also very accommodating regarding dimensions.

Add lightness and simplicate.
