What pen(s) are you using today?

The 'yellow pen comes....but I like to BS a bit.

I must have gotten tired of Kon-Peki blue, in this 1959 three true ring Geha 790 maxi-semi-flex stubbed  EF....original picture the three rings polished up nicely with a gold sunshine cloth.

I was upset for a few seconds when I realized it wasn't the OEF marked on the pen but it wasn't semi-flex; but maxi-semi=flex.......and it didn't take me long to think.....EF was narrow in semi-maxi enough with out looking for an Oblique that I normally wouldn't be able to see.

So I kept the pen..the seller probably didn't know enough to know the nib wasn't the Oblique the marking said  on the piston cap.  It was affordable way back in the then

oWb4qI2.jpg

A nice picture better than I could take of a Geha (Degussa made) nib..a even better picture of a Geha nib is in the red pen pictures.98lcPfy.jpg of that era. The stubbed German nibs of this era also have a very nice clean line.

This is the 'three rings of Geha after '59-71/2. Just in case you start chasing Geha.WotaRYp.jpg

There is there version that matches the Pelikan 140 with two rings...school pens have no rings but a normal clip ring. I somehow never got one of the 2 ring pens...:headsmack:

I do have the 780 in Green, .....this and the red ones I missed out on, are twice as expensive as the 'normal' black and gold 790's. The black Geha 790's and their  regular flex school pens are best buys in both Semi-flex and regular flex for the school pens. ..@ €60 for the black and gold  790...The black and gold 790 is a very well balanced pen...(the Degussa made nibs are a tad more springy that the 140/400/400nn nibs)..and so very in in the '50-60's, when torpedo/cigar shaped pens were so in. The Swan torpedo, the Pelikan 120/140 the Geha and some company called MB...146/9. 5rhiDcF.jpgand finished second:crybaby: for a red one and a gold capped red one.

.................................................

This is a marbled brown Pelikan 200 EF...now loaded with MB Irish Green.

Brown/yellow depending on how you turn it.

Even finer than the picture. I got this picture and pen from Fritz.

I asked him for the narrowest EF he had in the shop and it was one of the last tear drop tipped nibs. Writes with the expected nice clean line of a tear dropped nib.

It became such a hassle cleaning out pens sufficiently enough to change colors that I decided to just buy new X-159s from now on.

This makes perfect sense.

It's about the same as my 605 medium.

OK, so your EF writes like a Medium, right....  what ink are you using?

Yes!  I've got an M1000 Stresemann with the F nib and it writes like yours.

I'm trying out some Vintage Omas Blue from the mid '90s.  It writes a dark blue line and dries a soft grey.  Lost most of it's color over the years.  The good news is that it also is writing a one of the finest lines I've seen from this pen and the ink output is down to a mild roar.  I'd describe the line width as the same as a Sailor 1911L Medium, which is an amazing improvement for this pen.  It's still putting out a magnum of ink so the dry times are very long.

Maybe there is a problem with the pen.

It seems that they all write this way.

My M1000 is my least favourite fountain pen I own, I bought it second hand with a medium nib and then bought an additional fine nib with barely any variance whatsoever, it is so flexed I can't write with it properly and similarly gushes ink - if anyone is looking to add to their collection then DM me.. (Hopefully I haven't broken any rules by saying that!)

I can sympathize with you.  My solution has been a quest for the driest inks I can find.  Nevertheless, I know what you mean about the difficulty writing with the pen.  It needs the lightest touch you can give it because the slightest pressure flexes the nib, increasing the line width and the flow.  It's like writing with this pen has a learning curve....

I changed the cartridge on my geha 707 from the backwards Lamy to the proprietary one. I syringed what was left of the lamy blue into the mostly dehydrated geha green and then syringed the mixture out and kept it in the syringe for a few days to check for particulates. None seen, so today I loaded up the cartridge and installed it. It’s a pretty blue green that shades. I used it in my journal, so no writing samples.

Liking that nib and cap!  Curious what was the brown ink you used there?

So far today, it's been the Dove Gray 51 Vac, F (I think) nib, with Robert Oster Sydney Lavender.  Which is surprisingly legible even with it being a pale color and coming out of a narrower nib....

Definitely think that a full bottle has made the "to order soon" list.... :D

Somewhat working at opposite ends of the scale - a Narwhal Nautilus Chelonia Green with stub nib, and an Osprey Scholar with a Zebra G. Never thought I'd find myself saying this but I'm beginning to enjoy writing with the G nib.

I just bought a pack of Zebra G nibs, to use as replacements in the Desiderata Daedalus prototype.  The nib that was on it tore into nearly every paper I tried the pen on except Clairefontaine.  But since then I tried a couple of test pens at Pierre's table at pen shows, so clearly I just got a bum nib on mine.  A friend of mine told me about a place (which turns out to be halfway across town from me!) that sells manga and Japanese movie DVDS and tabi socks -- but also carry stuff for drawing your own comics, and some FP pen (I forget what the brand is) that I might pick up at some point if I can find out whether it takes converters or is cartridge only....

Also bought one of the silicone Punilabo stand up pen cases, just because I was there....

Today's journal pen is a Narwhal Schuylkill Chromis Teal with a fine nib and Taccia Ukiyo-e Hokusai Sabimidori. I have had the bottle of ink on hand for a year and haven't used it because the one time I did, when it first arrived, it seemed too emerald for my taste. Maybe it needed a good shake? It was then accidentally put away, along with three others, without even being swatched. The error was finally picked up this week and a swatch made - goodness, I thought, this is a lovely teal and perhaps an ink for the Narwhal... I do like the little ink window. 💙

Nice pen, I had to look it up to see what it was 👍

Today for me:

Reactivated-Sheaffer Connaisseur that was sitting in the pen case for 20+ years

Cosmo Snow paper

Rehydrated blue black ink, of unknown origin, that dried out in the cartridge.

I syringed 3 drops of water where the nib meets the feed and it wrote immediately.  Then I filled the cartridge 3/4 with water.  Writes like I used it yesterday.  Very smooth 18K M nib.  It says STE◊PF in a small oval on the side.

Today’s pen is a LAMY cp1 z56 EF

I have really grown to love the CP1 with a gold EF nib (Mine has a z57).  I thought it was too skinny when I got it.  It fits nicely in most notebook covers and I’ve really grown to love it as a sketching pen.  It’s like sketching with the smoothest pencil ever!

I’m so glad you like it! I love skinny pens, that’s what led me to this pen. I have a z57 on another pen. I meant to buy one for the black cp1 but it was sold out at time of purchase. I can always swap them, I guess.  I’m a big fan of the Lamy nib system now.
