What pen(s) are you using today?

I can't recall how i got this one.

I'm pretty sure it came from me. 😉 Speaking of which, I still have a whole bunch (over a dozen!) of those Preppy wannabes, that I'd planned on doing a year-long experiment with various iron-gall inks but that project has long since been abandoned, and I haven't written with most of those pens for at least a year. If you have a use for them, I'm happy to rehome the pens while I'm sending you other stuff anyway, but be warned that I've probably reground most of their nibs to be sharper and drier-flowing. None of them have blue accents on the pen body, though; I sent you the only one of those I managed to get from Daiso.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

That must have required quite a Daiso crawl to forage so many! Our store only seemed to have a small quantity of anything.

I would love to have a spare if you can part with it  I would be curious to see your nib adjustment. Did you try the ink cartridge that than came with them? I'm attempting to match it.

Will work for pens...

In my office carry for the last 10 days or so is this Click Renaissance in turquoise acrylic. I have inked this with Lapis Bard Tiffany punch.

I have mixed feelings about this pen. It writes well and wet, shows off the character of the ink very well, comfortable to hold and write even if a trifle large, and looks great from afar.

But the details. The details. For the price, the fit and finish leave a lot to be desired. The cap doesn't unscrew smoothly, the acrylic is a little cloudy (yes, I get it that it's meant to be translucent and brushed, but even then), and the finishing of and around the metal hardware is not great.

So, would I get one again? Yes, but I'd make it a point only to buy if I can choose the unit after inspecting it. This is assuming I got one of the lemons this time around!IMG_20230208_085747-01.thumb.jpeg.47da226a6582da469a8332c0befa4811.jpegIMG_20230208_085812-01.thumb.jpeg.b3d4762ef810bc1998782086f72bf8d2.jpeg

That's an ink I have on my "maybe" list to try a sample of, the next time I put in an order to Anderson Pens or Vanness....

What on earth would you do with it?  I don't draw, so red had all sorts of bad connotations, red ink, errata, etc.

I like changing up colors when I'm doing my morning pages entries.  Or when I'm doing other writing, or even just making shopping lists.

Also, that shade of red is great for Christmas and Valentine's Day gift tags....

It's a pretty red, this pen is a very fine nib so doesn't show it up as nice as it really is.  Got mine at Vanness.

My nib regrinding and adjustments were relatively quick and dirty, so to speak, given they were cheap pens and I just wanted them to put down finer, drier lines at the time. I just tested all sixteen I have here, and — bar the one pen whose nib I didn't mess with — there was varying degrees of success with little consistency. Anyway, I'm just in the process of giving a dozen of them some rudimentary cleaning, before sending them to you. I won't have time to dry out the collectors in the grip sections completely, but I guess that will be less of a problem for you in the WA climate; and you'll probably have to give them a more thorough clean before use anyway. I'll also send you the emptied out cartridge shells I used to hold the various iron-gall inks, as well as some of the original ink cartridges that came with the pens. The only ink colour from the original cartridges I've used is ‘Sky’ blue, because I had to empty out enough cartridges for sixteen pens, so I drew the ink with a blunt syringe out of sixteen cartridges that came with the ‘Sky’ blue pens and deposited all that in a small bottle… somewhere.

This morning I had to ask someone here to remind me what number our house is. It was already too hot to walk up the drive to look on the letterbox. It's so long since I needed to know maybe it doesn't matter.

Today's journal pen was the orange Lamy Terra and Topaz again, but with a nail buffer alongside for frequent intervention. By the time I finished my couple of pages I think it was good enough. Will defer the decision til I try a wetter ink as well. I think the Iro inks have made me less tolerant of drier ones.

Today's journal pen is a Pelikan Petrol Marble inked with Edelstein Topaz. Yesterday it was a Lamy with Lamy Topaz. How on earth do blue and brown inks both get to be called Topaz?

Haha, I wondered the same thing so I looked it up.  Topaz comes in a variety of colors.  Apparently brown is a common color for Topaz. The Blue color, more likely, has been treated.

Btw, I like Edelstein Topaz. 👍  On the bluer side of turquoise.

Today I've been using a Platinum Preppy 02 as an eyedropper with Papier Plume Iron Lace ink. I'm really enjoying it!

This moonman c1 has been inked up and on my desk for about a week now.

It's a lovely pen, my first moonman and, based on this pen, I have acquired a couple of other models as well. However, I enjoy this one the best. The only reason it's not in my office carry is the lack of a clip.

Inked with the Lapis Bard Cranberry Margarita, the fine nib lays down a moderately wet fine line. IMG_20230209_095225-01.thumb.jpeg.2808e0d95ce575c31644becb3c1aa64d.jpegIMG_20230209_095248-01.thumb.jpeg.e70089e5ee2bff8a4b970cf63361376c.jpeg

@naganaga I enjoyed your tale of going around town. My local pen store is a 40 minute drive away.

My nearest pen store is in another country.

Lucky you, Norfolk!  Where are you located?  I had a conference to go to a few years ago in Toronto, and drove early just for a chance to go to Wonder Pens (bought some very silly "cat" shaped paper clips, and a bottle of Noodler's Blues Upon the Plains of Abraham (yeah, drove to a foreign country to buy an American brand of ink, but that color is a Canadian exclusive, and is a very nice blue-grey).
