Today's journal pen arrived yesterday - taking just 3 weeks with ordinary registered post from Europe to Australia! (Sadly the vendor has since increased their shipping charge so, even though I'm impressed, I'm unlikely to be so easily tempted again - they've lost the advantage they had over other vendors.) Anyway the pen is a Lamy Terra F filled with Lamy Topaz (from a sample). The nib could benefit from a little smoothing, or maybe just adjusting for dryness cos it's also very fine for a fine. Not complaining, it just is and is easily fixed. All good. I'm delighted with the colour of the pen - not the screaming orange I had expected from some photos - it's a greyed-orange that very much suits my tastes and is great with the Topaz - which is a similar hue, but darker. Perfect.

Sheaffer cartridges are some of my favorites because you could puncture either end.  I remember looking at them carefully to make sure I punctured the slightly thicker end.  When I was a child I reasoned that since I opened the pen all the time to check the ink level, the thicker plastic would grip the metal puncturing point on the end of the feed better.  Alternatively I thought that if you were installing a cartridge by dropping it into the barrel and screwing in the section, the thin end would put less strain on the threads.  Now I wonder if it mattered.🤷‍♂️

I have a Lamy 1.1mm nib that needed/needs work. I need to try getting a shim or film negative in between the slit in the nib. It’s the first one I’ve noticed needing work.

Last night I ended up using the 140 w/ MV Sapphire because the brown Falcon 50 leaked Kopi O Kaw on my fingers when I used it (fortunately didn't leak in my shirt pocket). And, fortunately, it appears the problem was a leak between the cap of the cart (that goes on the section) and the body of the cart, rather than an issue with the pen. I'll try a converter instead.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Flat-top red Wing Sung 629 with a stub broad nib from an Osprey Scholar, with Diamine Red Dragon. A rather nice pen for the price.

Universal Uniflow

Is this a mushroom growing out from the pen? ;)

The stripes seem to have been assembled manually - makes this pen look great!

I kind of assumed it was 70+ years of whatever various climates and usage it has been through that caused the distortions in the striping --- but maybe it has always been this way. At any rate, I rather like it.

What have you done with the cat? It looks half dead.

A gorgeous pen! What filling system? I see some kind of mechanism through the transparent red area in the lower picture. Is it a converter?

Today's journal pen was a fine Kaweco Perkeo filled with Jacques Herbin Noir.

It's another of the notable pen models that held onto it's ink through the unplanned Test of Pen Sealing in Hot Dry Conditions.

Good question!

The end of the ink sac protrudes from its protective sleeve. Simply squeeze this, let go, and you have your fill.  👍
