What pen(s) are you using today?

@USG Thank you! The color is a little off because of the lighting. The paper was a actually a creamy off white. The ink (I think) is Diamine Elf.

Your Parker is delightful.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Today's journal pen is a Steiner school pen with a cartridge that came with it. Made in Germany. A fine nib and comfortable grip, the barrel is wood. It's a very sturdy pen and amazing value. I looked online and see that there's a calligraphy set available too. Tempted.

Will work for pens...

Same pens I've been using for over 5 years: TWSBI ECO.

My primary daily writer is a Blue ECO-T with an EF nib filled with Mrs. Stewart's Concentrated Liquid Bluing, and my signature and cheque writing pen is a Transparent Blue ECO with a 1.1 mm stub italic filled with the same. I also currently have a Pink ECO with an EF nib fillied with Sakura Jentle Sakura Mori ink.

Just today, I completely disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled for the first time since I bought it in 2017, my first ECO, a Clear one which originally had an EF nib, but now has an M nib. I plan to fill it with either Teranishi Guitar Taisho Modern Red or Kakimori #01 Po pigment red.

That's the same pen, but this picture makes it look like the pen is an olivine.  Instead it is  a bright green. The image below shows the color better.

Another nice pen DMS, I didn't know about that one, had to look it up...

I have an Aurora Italic nib, is that the same as the cursive Italic on your pen?

At some point - about 2018, I think - Aurora changed their "italic" nibs from smooth writing crisp cursive italics to wider, extremely crisp formal italics. The new nibs were suitable for making small batches of confetti, not for writing, IMO. They make stubs which are less crisp than I prefer, but can be custom-ground to excellent nibs for calligraphy.

Note that my description of a nib as "cursive italic" is not used by Aurora. They sell "italic" and "stub" nibs.

Hope that clarifies.

My Aurora Italic nib is from the late '90s.  It's wider than a regular Aurora Medium, very smooth but has quite sharp edges that can grip the paper if you wonder off the sweet spot.  Is this what you have or is yours a recent one?

The pen I carried today has the older type of italic nib, as you described.

Against the vendor's advice, I did buy one of the new-style italic nibs once. I ended up having it re-ground  - narrower and smoother.

Amazing what a good sales pitch can pull, innit?

[*with knowing smile*]

I've wondered how many Specialty-Special Cursed-Cursive-Italic-Oblique-Kitty-Whatnot nibs began life as a Monday morning bad job.

Very pretty picture! (I need to use Salamander more ...)

Is the nib tip bent down or is that just an illusion?

Not an illusion, It is bent down ... a Kirk Speer PO nib (from Pen Realm).

Using my cobalt Hero with Lamy Peridot today. I’m still looking to see which of my hyper inexpensive pens are going to the jury room with me on Wednesday. I have to do so much writing on execrable paper, so I need a f/ef, dry ink, and a few colors so I don’t get bored. So far, I have a 2 Oolys in red and hydrangea that don’t feather on that horrible paper they use (can you tell how much I hate it- lol) and I am testing a third, heavier pen in a dark ink. The courthouse area is not so great right now and I either need a ride or take public transit, so my nicer pens are not available. However, the Kinokuniya store is relatively close, so I might go take a look at paper and ink and Preppies (I don’t have any) when I’m done with my civic duties as a reward.

Top 5 of 26 (in no particular order) currently inked pens:

Pelikan M300 CIF, Pelikan Edelstein Golden Beryl

MontBlanc 144R F, Diamine Bah Humbug

Sheaffer 3-25 EF ringtop, Skrip Black

Waterman Caréne Black Sea, Teranishi Lady Emerald

Pilot 742 FA, Namiki Purple cartridge

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Thank you! I like the M1000 size better, but the Green pen was my grail.

This morning is a Waterman body with an Eversharp Broad Flex Stub.  @tringle helped me rehome this lovely nib to a more fitting pen body.
