What pen(s) are you using today?

I have inked up yesterday's arrival with Pelikan 4001 ink and just taken it for a writing test.

'Rubidor - Ball.ink.ograph'? Possibly? I am delighted!!

Engraved on the barrel is the name 'rubidor' in a flowing script and a capital 'M'. (perhaps referring to a 'Medium' ball).

Certainly the most interesting writing instrument I have found in recent times!

I first thought 1950's or 60's technology but now suspect the German, piston-filler, ball-point (roller) may be even earlier. perhaps 1930's or 40's.

Possibly from the George Linz & Co., Nurnberg factory? "Sphinx", Rubidor. And if this is correct the roller tip may be 'Garnet'. I first thought ruby but this certificate pic mentions the former.

The ball has a slight 'squeak' as I write suggesting roller friction and I used a steeper angle grip and gentle pressure while testing it.

Hope you enjoy seeing this vintage 'fountain pen' with a difference!

I received this pen yesterday. I'm on a fourth ink. This is my first experience with Leonardo's gold nibs made in-house. This nib is a stub. It is extremely juicy, and I have been trying different inks to see if I could find one that was dry enough.  At present, I have the pen inked with Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown, and that is the best yet.

The ebonite feed is probably still getting saturated. So far, the nib has super-high flow for the first few lines of writing after a rest. Then it gradually settles down a bit.

The nib is nominally 1.4mm and writes a line that is at least 1.0mm wide. That's just a bit wider than the maximum of my preference for everyday writing. I may end up having a nib technician regrind the nib and adjust the flow for me. I'll give it a few more days of testing.

Otherwise, it's a lovely pen.

David

Congratulations . Your new Leonardo is really nice. The opinion about the flow is a good guide when buying a Leonardo pen.

Thanks for your comment.

I nearly always buy pens with stub nibs and have <gasp> over three dozen Leonardos. However, this is my first Leonardo with a nib of their own manufacture. Their Bock and JoWo stubs had rather moderate ink flow. Most worked very well with Leonardo-branded inks. A few did better with drier or wetter inks, but none were as wet as this one.

I have another Leonardo with the new stub nib scheduled for delivery tomorrow. We'll see if it writes as wet or not. I will surely report.

Oops...doubled! ?

There's something just downright regal about that pen!

My current work pen is my fine LAMY 2000, which I always look forward to writing with.  At home, it's my late great-uncle's Montblanc 144 Classique.

This Mentmore, trying to see if the nib will stop singing now that the Parker Quink purchased on Fountain Pen Day has arrived.  It didn't say it had Solv-X, though.

To my eye, it seems in perfect proportion, and that lovely cerulean blue is amazing.

An assortment of Leonardo pens, all with nibs Leonardo has recently added to their offerings - their in-house-made 14Kt nibs and a steel JoWo Broad nib ground to a smooth cursive italic by Salvatore that he sent me for testing.  The gold nibs are both 1.4 stubs. They are too wet for my use, i.e., italic calligraphy, but they may be wonderful for those who prefer very juicy writers.

Salvatore also sent me a Fine "elastic" nib with the tip ground to cursive italic. I'm about to test that one. I've been cursive whether this particular nib might emulate a goose quill pen.

The broken pen was in a drawer for years, the nib was on another Pen.  I finally sprung for a new barrel.  It's so annoying, it's opaque.  I keep checking my ink supply and.... nothing!!!!
