My husband generally knows better and doesn't use my pens (of course he now has about 6 of them but he doesn't know where four of them are, has not even inked up the Hongdian a friend gave him, and has decided that he thinks that Namiki Black is too wet in his Vanishing Point -- but hasn't flushed it out to try something else (someone we were talking to last weekend at the Commonwealth Pen Show recommended Noodler's Dark Matter as being drier, and I told my husband, "No, just refilling from the new bottle/brand without flushing your pen out first is just asking for trouble...").

Sounds like grounds for divorce.

When put succinctly to a judge, I am sure you will be granted custody of all the pens in the household.

He might get visitation though - so you should ask for supervised visitation of the Nakayas.

A clumsy oaf will scar them for life!

The Pelikan M800 brown-black that I ordered on an absolute whim finally got inked today. I’m kinda liking it…

Then I suppose it would probably just be mean of mean to tell you that I actually *wasn't* looking for this pen but bought it on a whim (when a friend said it's what she would buy) because it was at a brief 30% discount at Mora Stylos... (sorry!)

The (gold) nibs are wonderful.

Yes.  They are my favorite as I can feel the paper but they still flow well.

If you'll excuse me for saying I've seen many of your savoury delights David and now I see you may have a sweet tooth! 😄

Congratulations on this striking piece.

🤣 Thanks, Tom!

My sweet tooth favors dark chocolate, actually. My taste in pens favors almost every Jonathon Brooks resin I've seen. I have been wanting a pen in this Waterlily Koi for a few years. It's a good fit with the Edison Comet, I think.

Beautiful material on that pen. I am still not convinced by the translucent ball-shaped finial, but since these pens seem to be flying off the shelves at Edison, I am assuming it looks better in person/3D than is does in pictures.

Only because I had to fill in some forms with small spaces, I resorted to using a fine nib Pelikano,  Otherwise, it has been another day of what I've come to realise is the pen I use the most; my broad nib Onoto Scholar.

The finial material is transparent. It is integral to the design, it seems. I'm not fond of it, but I like the overall pen design. I'm betting my two Comets will get more than their share of use.

I have more than one Onoto Magnum with gold nibs. I like them a lot, except for the number of turns needed to un-cap them. I haven't bought a Scholar and wonder about Onoto's steel nibs. They are especially made No. 7 size, I believe.

Can you tell us about the nib? Any springiness? Are they tipped?

Thanks.

David, as I mentioned in another thread, the Scholar is the pen I find myself using more than any other.  I bought mine when they were first introduced.  I can't really tell any difference between the Magna nib and the Scholar nib I have a broad nib in each.  Both are tipped.  The nibs appear visibly to be the same, and for me at least, they seem to write the same and produce what appear to be identical lines even though one is loaded with Diamine Regency Blue and the other Oxford Blue.

As for springiness, I can't say that I would know 'springiness' if I tripped over it.

Someone else mentioned to me that the number of turns to uncap an Onoto was off-putting.  I've actually found it to be a virtue.  My Conway Stewart pens require half or less the number of turns to uncap them, and their nibs almost without exception will dry out over about one and a half to two days if left unused.  My Onotos can be left unused for a fortnight and have a wet nib and write as soon as touches paper.

I will add that I am a huge (not quite obsessive) Conway Stewart fan.  I love them, be they new or vintage.  That said, IF I could only have one pen, it would be terribly hard to not have an Onoto.

Cheers,

Paul

Thanks for your prompt and detailed reply, Paul.

I am also a Conway Stewart fan, especially the "modern" ones from the early 2000's. Those are nibs I would describe as "springy." I love to write with them. Many of my pens produce script as nice, but writing with those nibs is sensual. I can only compare them to a 1980's Montblanc 146 and a Pelikan 400, in my personal collection.

With that in mind, I just compared my Churchill to my Magna and my Duro to my Scholar.  In each case the CS has a wee bit more flex visibly -- minutely -- than the Onoto.  That flexibility might be nocticable to someone who writes with more pressure than I do so I would say the Onoto nib is less springy.

Today, so far, it's been the green/black Pelikan 120 (M nib), still with Edelstein Olivine; and the purple Pilot Falcon (SF nib), still with Sailor Souboku.
