Today I rinsed and inked up a free Sheaffer, Triumph 440XG (Aust. made) and a Parker 51, both in very good condition

Sumgai deal? 😄 In any case, nice pens.

Wonderful pen and nib, @mallymal1!

What are the dimensions, if you don't mind? I've read it's about 13 cm capped, with the barrel at about 10 cm, but this pen looks much longer uncapped for some reason.

I only have five pens, and I use them all every day. At work for notes and at home for letter writing and journaling.

  • Sailor PG KOP "M"
  • Montblanc 149 "M"
  • Pilot Custom Urushi "FM"
  • Pelikan M1000 "F"
  • Platinum Prefounte "M"

I use Waterman blue in all of them except for the Platinum. I use Carbon black in it for writing on envelopes.

I one was forced to choose only five pens, those would be excellent choices.

@amberleadavis, I thought people might be gasping at my desecration of the Pelikan nib.

Like you, I am always trying to get my pens to lay down more color.  I think the Pelikan nib might fit into an eye-droppered Kaweco Sport with its original Pelikan feed. This might work even better.  I may try that next, although the BB Kaweco nib is nice.

Thanks for reminding me how much I love Winter Miracle!

Nah!  Desecrate away!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

@OldTravelingShoe

My measurements would be:

Cap: 5.9 cm (but there's a slight gap where the clip ring sits so it should be 5.8 cm)

Barrel: 8.8 cm

Section: 1.6 cm

Capped:  12.9 cm

Posted: 16.4 cm

Maybe not exact, but somewhere near.  😁

So, your capped measurement looks correct, and the barrel length probably includes the section.

It's a great pen, and to me, is one of the British classics.

Thanks for the measurements, @mallymal1! Noted, added to the list of should. I'm a bit scared to go head-on trying out Conway Stewarts, because they are really many, but a small selection should work for this non-collector.

Wing Sung 380. Firm nib, inked with Diamine Blue Black.

How did you like it? I have one, uninked, one of the last Chinese pens I've bought. After the big disappointment with Parker 180 clones (all of them were utter rubbish, much worse than I've ever had before from Chinese brands), I kinda stopped trying.

(I do have a bunch of PenBBS 353 Nib Charms to still try out, and I'm glad I do, but no new pens from AliExpress for a while, for me.)

Not much writing today, so I'm playing around with a Swan Calligraph and an Esterbrook Relief 2-L.

Especially the Swan Calligraph is inspiring for me 😃

TL;DR: Today was a quiet day after a noisy week. So I spent much of it cleaning pens. Cathartic, as Figures 1-3 also suggest.

Figure 1. Waterman 877 nib. Likely a Taperite pen.

Figure 2. The Number 5 nib of a Waterman 515.

Figure 3. A Conway Stewart 5 nib, part of an 85L. Perhaps not the original, because the guide indicates a CS3. But this nib is great as well, a broad, cursive italic. Now I need to find a way to increase the flow to it.

Enjoy, everyone!

@OldTravelingShoe

It's ok.

I bought it as a used item. There's something wrong inside the cap, something loose? Not sure what it is, but it doesn't affect the writing experience, and the nib doesn't dry out.

There isn't any flex, or softness, but I find some pleasant feedback.

@OldTravelingShoe

Enjoyed these photos very much!

It's nice to have a quiet day.

I have 3 Conway Stewart 85L's and they all have the #3 nib.

The #5 on yours, is possibly a later 1950's #5 nib, having a round breather hole. I find similar a nib on a 27 and a 28 pen.

The 286 I posted earlier (1930's - 40's)  has a #5 nib, but has a heart shaped breather hole.

Very nice pen, imo. Now, if only I could get the flow in mine - currently, I suspect the feed mechanism, from ink sac to delivery conduits, is not clean enough. Other than cleaning fluid, not sure what I could try...
