Speaking of above my means, could someone tell me what is the name of the colour of the gorgeous set (a kind of perlescent grey with a pinkish hue) on Mary's second picture?

Hi Reisho,

The Dinkie pictured is from one of the Tiffany Casein collections.

Kind regards,

Mary

The new Conway Stewart pens have flourished and developed in a way that must be beyond the dreams of those who resurrected this brand. I think all agree that the early resurrections, based on original CS designs, were beautiful, and the Churchill a worthwhile addition.

However since around the time of the Nelson, perhaps even before, the similarities and interest between the modern and vintage CS pens has been in name only. For me, however proud I may be of this British success story, its been a disappointing wave goodbye as the new product has become more and more esoteric and gaudy. Like most I find the Newton tasteless, but then I also find many other gaudy pens tasteless, but that's only to my judgement and variation is the spice of life. However the fact this is a CS brings that little tang of disappointment as the resurreected brand drifts a little further from relevance to me.

Having said that some of those pens in Mary's pictures in this thread I still find beautiful but others suggest to me this forum would be better split into CS Vintage and CS Modern, such are the differences of interest.

Hi Greg,

I feel we would lose momentum if we split this forum into two -- vintage / modern. This would result in fewer postings and a reduction in interest as people will be forced to split their time in reading two different forums.

I strongly feel it benefits users of modern CS pens to be able to talk with people who are passionate about vintage CS pens. I know for a fact there is a great cross-over of interest. Before I represented CS, I use to sell modern and vintage pens covering all brands. I also invested a great deal of work and personal time in the production of FPOTW and FP USA & UK, and part of the personal rewards was the sheer pleasure to get people interested in classic/vintage pens. Owners of modern pens started to appreciate the 'fountain pen' a lot more once they found out the history of the pen companies and the way pens were made with different filling mechanisms, etc.

Regards,

Mary

It surprised me slightly that in the first page of viewed topics these were split roughly 50:50 modern:vintage. My own feeling was that most of the recent posts were about modern CS but that obviously just reflects my own prejudices!

From my own point of view, I have resolved to give up airing my grumbles about modern CS designs here because, if the truth be known, I still probably wouldn't be interested in modern CS pens even if they were more affordable or produced in herringbone celluloid or any other finish - it is the history aspect of the company that is my real interest. I did try to get involved with 'new generation CS' some years ago but didn't get hooked and now I only have a couple of modern pens left - and I'd like to sell these on ASAP to re-invest the funds in the vintage collection!

I don't see any need to split the forum - there aren't a huge number of new posts, so just don't read the topics you are not interested in!
