L139 Photos

While rummaging through my laptop, I found some old photos of probably the cleanest L139 I owned. I sold it to a good friend many years ago but thought I'd share the pics here for eye candy. It had a nice B flex nib. As beautiful as it was, I don't miss it that much as I often felt the pressure of being extra careful when I used it or took it to work. Max did a great job restoring this pen. It was also one of the rare English market "Masterpiece" pens. Enjoy...

Cheers

I was lucky enough to find a L139 pen with a long green ink window in good condition. I bought it right away.

It is a joy and a lot of pride holding this iconic pen and writing it with Montblanc Irish Green ink.

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing these great photos. Interesting that your pen is stamped "250" under the 14C, do you know what that mean? The one I had was easy enough with the "585", which means it's 14C gold. I haven't see such a lovely long ink window like this before, most have dark amber windows or lost their stripes. Well done on the such a great find! Use it in good health.

Cheers

The nib stamped "250" under the 14C indicates this is the earliest version of this model from 1937-38 .

Wael,  that number indicates the nib size.

250= #9 nib

245= #8 nib

235= #6 nib

225= #4 nib

220= #2 nib

It's an interesting point about when nibs like this were used.  I have an early 50s 149 from Tom W who claimed the nib was a from an old 139 supply.  We certainly saw 1950s nibs used on early 1960s 149s, I have a few.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Thank a Veteran.

Thank you @niksch. It's certainly wonderful seeing you back! I wonder if the 250 nibs had more flex or did you find any discernable difference in writing with one?

Cheers
