Mysterious Ferrari Pen

Hi there! I wonder if you can help me out of a mystery. I have this very old fountain pen. It was bought in Italy decades ago by my grandfather, who always used it with cartridges, but these are now impossible to get. I decided to try to buy a convertor to solve that problem, but I just cannot find out which is the manufacturer of the pen, and thus I do not know if I have to buy a proprietary convertor or if a universal one will do the job. The only brand on the pen is "Ferrari", because it was an official licensed product back in the day. However, there are a number of manufacturers that have worked with Ferrari (Sheaffer, Montblanc, Montegrappa...). The nib is not proprietary, since it is made by Iridium Point Germany. Does anyone recognize it?01a28242-5341-4aaa-9ca3-d869bb0419c0.thumb.jpg.2b6817dceccf4e0eb20b613666c92d0f.jpg6d6fa95c-2b27-4ae5-bd9e-952b8dd56051.thumb.jpg.86dcc1fd61a54ec89f6c8707568f414d.jpg

It looks incredibly like a cheap pen I once bought in France. Darned if I can remember the name. I'd be very surprised if it wasn't standard international cartridges/convertor.

Cheers,

Ralf

Hi Ralf! Today I found the name. It is the Artena Ferrari Grand Prix. It appears Artena is the manufacturer, but I could not fina a web page (maybe they do not exist anymore). What I have not been able to figure out is whether standard internacional cartridges or a convertor will work. When my grandfather used it, he usually bought these very big cartridges (larger than Parker cartridges), so I am not sure.

Somewhere seen a reference that Stypen France had made some pens for Artena Italy but cant seem to find it now :(. No idea if this is one of those or not.

Do you have any of the old cartridges, do they look like a double sided fairly long cartridge?

Yes! Stypen! That's the one. International carts. They come in short and long, which look like super-duper Parker ones. International cartridges are pretty affordable, so trying one wouldn't be too bad . . .

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
