Advice on swapping a new nib: Caran D’Ache Leman Bicolor

I’d appreciate some help if anyone has exchanged a nib with Caran D’Ache directly for a different size. Here is my scenario:

I’ve had my eye on a Caran D’Ache Bicolor Fountain Pen for some time, and this week with the Black Friday discount of 20% at Cult Pens, the price of the one I want (this one in white), is the lowest I have seen it. The problem is that this is the ONLY colour they sell where the nib is not available in (F), it’s only available in (M). The other Bicolor ones they sell are available in F when I last checked.

When I rang Cult Pens a few months ago, they said they don’t have it in F because it is no longer available. However, Caran D’Ache’s own UK website shows it available in multiple sizes. Andy’s Pens also has it available in different nib sizes.

So my question is if anyone has had any experience buying a Leman, then changing the nib with them directly i.e a new for new swap. Thanks in advance for any help.

No can help, how much more is the other pens? Would it match a nibmeister cost?

You can send it in to a nibmeister and have it made F or EF.....of course as an M, you could have it made stub or if you send a picture of where exactly you hold a pen, high, middle or low he could make it a nifty CI.

There will be a tiny bit of nib width lost when doing a CI.

Have you any M nibs, and Euro or Japanese(B)?

If you were to tell us what country you are in, advice like which nibmeisster or what papers to buy is easier.

I've come to like M nibs quite a bit, they are that slight tad smoother than F; better if one ever uses classic rough paper; laid or linen effect a width that rides better. (Of course I came back to fountain pens with an old P-75 in M, and went wide. So for me, F never was the first width I grab for. ) But do give your M a try before sending to off to be made narrower.

M is better I think for two toned shading inks. (You do need 90g or Rhoda 80g paper for shading ink.)

A dry ink on a slick paper makes a nib write a full width narrower, just like the reverse a wet ink on common copy paper will be a width wider.

Yes, Caran d’Ache offers free nib exchange service just like many other pen manufacturers. Just send the pen in to an authorised stockist within one month after purchase.
