In case no one has told you, it's a later SJ, which is a "pocket" version of Esterbrook's incredibly popular J model.  A 9556 nib is a great find, too; I have one on my red full-size, and it is a lot of fun to write with.

Thank you! I had not known that. I know there’s a few J models, and that they vary in size and diameter, but I hadn’t measured it to see what it was. I love pocket pens, it’s a great size for me, and fine nibs suit my hand.

Top 5 of 20 currently inked pens:

MontBlanc 144 IB, Herbin Orange Indien/ Wearingeul Frost

Sailor x Daimaru Central Rockhopper Penguin PGS mini, Sailor Wonder Blue

Parker 88 Place Vendôme IB, Diamine Golden Sands

Salz Peter Pan 18k gold filled filligree fine flex, Waterman Serenity Blue

Yiren Giraffe IEF, Pilot Yama-Guri/sky blue holographic mica

always looking for penguin fountain pens and stationery

Esterbrook

I forgot I have a blue Estie:headsmack:....it's in the big cherry glass topped storage box in the living room, that I seldom look deep into....having a pen box and two pen cups the need to be cleaned in my den.

...............................

Will admit to being so lazy, I look in my index card box to see what ink was last in a pen, and re-ink it.

Please let me know how you like writing with the Journaler nib. I’ve been curious about that nib.

The nib is like a mini stub that is smoothed out. Giving just enough line variation to add flair to one's writing without being scratchy.

a few J models

DJ, normal standard size,  SJ- slim (a hair smaller than the DJ, 1/4th an inch or so by eyeball), LJ, Lady size..smaller-thinner than DJ, don't remember if it was thinner than the SJ. It's been a decade since I got rid of my Esties ....were the three I once had. I have a blue SJ and a copper DJ left.

An English Ebay Lot I got back when I was a noobie.....some how I got the idea that having 20 pens would be enough and got rid of most of them.:crybaby:A fool and his Estei is soon parted.rfUcYs9.jpg

I really regret getting rid of those 4-5 pre and post war Wearevers, which were solid second tier pens....There were other 3rd tier ones there too.  Those Wearevers had better regular flex nibs than they looked.

Still have the turquoise one in that's my wife's color and the camouflage MP/FP.

Had I been in the States, I could see having a collection of Wearevers...Their second tier pens were/are that good.

There was once a poster, Dennis the Guest who help found FPN, who had the worlds greatest collection of Wearever pens, once the biggest pen maker in the world.

He got ill, ending up in a wheelchair with an O2 tank, sold his collection suddenly for a nickle on the dollar, and his very, very great blog died soon after.

That is something that could never happen here in Germany. Such illnesses are covered, you don't lose; house, car and everything you own when so ill over here.

When working I paid 15% and the company paid the same. Retired I pay 15% and am fully covered. Outside €10 a day for hospital care. €2.00 more for TV.

Thank you @Baka1969  that saves me money, as I prefer more line variation.

I hear ya. I have a number of other stubs and different sizes. The advantage of this Estie is it being more like a daily writer that has a little added flair. I don't see a 1.1 stub as a daily writer.

Nothing too exciting... Three arrived yesterday from AE, one is a feepay purchase that arrived on Thursday. I haven't had time to ink up any of them and likely won't do until tomorrow (or in the case of the Platinum, possibly not until Monday.)

  • Majohn C2, very desaturated purple demonstrator. No clip (yay!), medium nib, though I have several in my bag of tricks that should fit it in the event I want a different size.
  • Asvine P136, a color they style "Glacier Blue", 1.1mm stub plus the EF/F/M nibs. I'd prefer a demonstrator but eh. I may actually try to return this, as the cap doesn't post. I don't think I was aware of this before I ordered the pen. Cap not posting isn't necessarily a deal-breaker, but it could be if I feel "meh" about this pen for any performance-related reason.
  • Platinum "big cap" pocket pen, 18kt music nib. Snagged this off feepay because I'm interested in the nib, but wasn't interested in paying full retail for another boring 3776 cigar. Plus I like pocket pens. I ordered a Platinum converter and a box of Carbon Black ink cartridges specifically for this pen. The Platinum UEF I have did include a converter, but all my Platinum cartridges are "Preppy" colors and I don't have any empties available to recycle, soooo...Holding pattern.
  • Majohn Q2 mini clear demonstrator, medium nib. Again, I have other nibs that should fit it, in the event. This would be better without the clip, I think. It's the same size as an antique BCHR no-clip vest pocket pen that I adore but have decided will be better residing in the drawer. If I can't reasonably, and attractively, remove the clip from this Q2 I'll order one of the Wancai mini demonstrators; which I probably should have done in the first place.

I manage writing with 1.1mm nibs, but my daily writing if for me only.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks to a friend in Japan, I am lucky not to have missed the boat on buying these discontinued fountain pens new, and discounted too!

@Misfit Pink Camo doesn't need a reason. 👍

Ha! I didn’t watch the Barbie movie. But then, I don’t go to the movies. Caregiver and such.
