The MB safety pen, the 950 Parisian silver with emerald eyes was made for me by a local jeweler. nYkLum8.jpg

I remember when you posted this after it came back from the jeweler/repair. It was drooltastic then and will only get better with age, I'm sure.

I am glad I started out as a bottom filler chasing cheap old pens....in I ended up with my fair share of pretty ones.

Senator 60-70s

Pound of coffee the pen and the ink.Emei2kJ.jpg

Until I got the ink, I didn't know Uhu (a glue company made fountain pens and inks) The new gasket and a rebuild cost more than the pen was wroth' but It is mine, and I  am not going to worry about a future loss of money...or I'd never open up a beer bottle.

Pretty enough... mid '50's.AfZ17lM.jpg

How cheap was cheap back then....the two doubles, the green stripped and cracked Ice and the blue and red clipper nibbed pens, were under €25. '60's semi-flex tear drop not a stub.JQo5tID.jpg

Is not a Wearever just came in that box...Ss3oyur.jpg

6kmrETj.jpg

Clipper nib....three tailed airplane.  One of the prettiest planes ever made. I worked on them for three years. y5q5F3F.jpg

The same in blue...have two, one I put on my very best Rupp made maxi-semi-flex nib, the nib I discovered the maxi-semi-flex rating with. Two have that clipper nib....ni1P3um.jpg

Have over 35 semi-flex and 16-18 maxie's.

I've three of four of the 790's (400 size)...my first one cost €15...then :yikes: FcMRU9x.jpg€19....now still cheap at €60. Well made, well balanced, stubbed semi-flex. torpedo/cigar shape was very popular back then, 120/140, MB 146/9 Swan Torpedo.

silver plated diplomat...not golden, bad light. dYPz9F6.jpg

Full tortoise Boehler 54 Gold....steel nibs, in that was made after Hitler sold all the gold 1938. Probably under or near €20.oLLTvji.jpg

Austrian...mid '50s'...semi-flex, tear drop tipping.  NOS both. A nice poster who is no longer  posting told me about them.NaSVjEj.jpghslHzkC.jpg

Tiny cracked ice...gold semi-flex.

You should know the generation before me....ie more than 15 years ago....got real cheap pens.:crybaby:

And the generation after you will say the same.

Thank you.

The problem with having too many pens, is some seldom get used.

That's a nice looking pen.  Can't wait to see a writing sample with that stub nib!

I finally chose the ink, and filled the Harriet Tubman Retro 51 fountain pen. Two photos, with writing sample in one. A nod to @ak47 who mentioned Waterman’s brown ink.

I just got my Diplomat Aero Stripes Black in about an hour ago.

This one is a surprise to me. I've usually only have okay luck with steel fine nibs. I've have a few fine gold nibs that write well. I just haven't found many fine steel nibs I've really liked. They're usually too scratchy for me.

This Diplomat is the exception. It writes really nicely. Especially for a fine nib.

Plus it looks great and feels terrific in the hand. I think this pen will end up in frequent rotation.

One has to make hard decisions, when one's wallet has one in court so often for wallet abuse...

Kaweco and Diplomat were not chased.

I have only one Kaweco, and 3 Diplomats.

Back when I was a foolish (5 pen) noobie....some how I thought I had to have a limit to how many pens I had....and sold a light aluminum perfectly balanced Diplomat nail.

For years afterwards I regretted that. It had such great balance....but it was a nail. I want qa bit more life in my nibs.

I have a old '50's semi-flex, a '90 burl very nice springy regular flex, my wife's silver plated Diplomat...

I believe Diplomat is still family owned.

I believe the Diplomat Aero uses #6 JoWo nibs. They are very well tuned and feel nicer than the bog standard steel JoWo. It does show that the biggest weakness of JoWo nibs are the individual manufacturers that don't bother to either order a higher version of the standard JoWo nib or don't do any tuning in house and just shove the least JoWO has to offer.

JoWo nibs can be great and not just a JoWo receptacle device when ordered in a higher spec and some care is given to tuning the nibs.

Same with Bock nibs...they have 2-3 levels...

Oh, my VW bug don't run as good as his Rolls.

Viscontie is famous for ruining what ever level nib from Bock they get...would think it the cheap one...

It is stamped Visconti, but it was only Visconti that had 'bad'  Bock made nibs.

Bock makes nibs for 20-30 name companies.

It matters which feed is on the nib.

Ebonite is sawn hard rubber so is rougher than pressed plastic. One of the reasons ebonite is so well liked it held ink on it.

We have a member Engineeer or such,  who was an engineer at Lamy and developed the acid treated smooth Lamy feeds that holds ink as well as ebonite....which explains how the smooth Lamy feeds can work with out combs.

The idea of combs and how many, is to slow down the flow of ink. And it was not a one step procedure.

The mechanical watch industry does the same thing. Many manufacturers use movements from third party makers that sell standard movements at different levels and adjustments. Watch companies will order up literally from a menu of levels, quality and aesthetic.

It's a great pen. It has a little bit of heft to it at a tad over 40g. The fine nib is one of the best steel fine nibs I've written with. It looks terrific and is pretty unique.

40g?  :yikes:  Too heavy for me....  Thanks for the info, though.  Clearly I can pass on one of those....

I like my nimble 12-18g pens....

I just weighed one my heavy pens, 44g for a Lamy Persona. when posted it does lay in the pit of my thumb.

Pendelton Brown took a no line variation 18 K nail OB into a B cursive italic.

Taken form somewhere....Black Titanium Oxide, don't put in the sand box with other pens. The clip presses out  for a real tight grab on your shirt.

Mine is from 1990..........the same designer also designed the new Lamy Imporium. lamy-021-persona-black-5.webp.6275abbc9fc1a4c560004f3651d8bcca.webp

42g to be more precise. lol

It doesn't really feel that heavy in the hand while writing. Heck, the stainless Lamy 2000 is 54g! That's more than twice as heavy as the black Lamy 2000. That's a heavy pen.

The Diplomat Aero has a nice quality balanced feel. Plus, although I prefer to write with a pen posted, you can save some weight by not posting it.

17,22,34

I frequently write with a Lamy Safari, AL-Star and Studio. They are 17g, 22g and 34g respectively. Of the three models I prefer the weight of the Studio over the Safari at half the weight. Plus the Studio and Aero seem to have their weight well distributed and (as stated above) feel balanced in the hand.

Of course that's just my experience. YMMV

Do you have lovely handwriting or is the pen doing all the work? lol

I am very jealous of those with beautiful handwriting. Mine looks as though a 3rd grader is writing.
