@USGOk, I give up. Are the pens from Chinese makers or some other?

Oh Gee, they're more Jinhao X-159s for my ink tests.  I get a packs of 4 from Amazon on next day delivery.

Thanks for explaining. I suspected Jinhao or Delike by the packaging. I’ve been using a Mnemosyne notebook in A5 size to write in with new pens. It’s getting close to the end. I’m thinking I’ll next use a Leuchtturm 1917 notebook with blank pages.  I used to be good, and write in a Clairefontaine and Leuchtturm notebook when I inked a pen, new or not. I’ve gotten lazy, and write in the Mnemosyne that is by my living room chair. I need to get back to the other way because it is good to see how pens write on different papers.  I’ll keep a notebook by the chair, to have to write more with a new pen or re-inked pen.

I received a Kaigelu 316 today. Another chinese Duofold clone, and very similar to the Jinhao 100. But the "M" nib is the widest Chinese medium nib that I have ever received, so now I have excellent Chinese pens with beautiful acrylics in all the nib widths that I find compatible with my handwriting (such as it is). Nice pen, $15 shipped.

Here's the thing.  Clairefontaine is bright white.  Cosmo Snow is very white.  Tomoe River S is a little less white than Cosmo Snow and Mnemosyne is an off white to cream paper.  Why does that matter?  It matters because ink colors don't show up very well on off white or cream paper.  What's the point of haveing all these subtle shaded inks if the paper dulls or changes the color.  Sugar Cane paper has a light greyish tone but that doesn't mess with the ink color as much as the yellow does in a cream paper.  Diamine Asa Blue is similar to Kon-Peki but on Mnemosyne, it becomes a darker teal.  Trying to find some ink colors that look good on Mnemosyne was a daunting task.  Browns, Oranges, Yellows, and very dark blues looked the best along with Pelikan Blau-Schwarz.  Yonaga, a very dark blue also looked good and Shigure, a dark purple, presented as black.

Marginal cell phone pic but maybe you can see the differences

These are some of the inks I was going through to see what looked good on Mnemosiyne, each pen has a different ink

I had the P-75 Cisele'  and ball point, then called P-75 not the 'classic' as it was called later, since @ 1971.

The Parker P-75 Thuya set, I got today and filled with Lamy Crystal Topqz.LQs24Yd.jpg

The other ink is Parker Quink black. click on for a larger view.HzBMJvw.jpg

I'm lazy, and use

Let it Be.......L et it....B e.......with the e I can see how the ink trails off.

L is my fancy letter...when I feel like it....if the nib allows....in semi-flex, line variation or shading.

Crossing the t can tell me something, if I remember to loop at least one of them.

B can show me some line variation if the nib has that, which these don't.

I received the Retro 51 Harriet Tubman pen today. It has a 1.1mm stub nib.  The pattern on the pen matches a head scarf Harriet Tubman wore.

That's a nice looking pen.  Can't wait to see a writing sample with that stub nib!

I was thinking that a dark blue or blue-black ink would look really good coming out of that pen....

I've had a chance to write in the Mnemosyne notebook and I'm disappointed with the paper.  I thought the paper would be white not cream, but worst of all, it feathers with a lot of inks.  Now what?

Thank you @ak47 I need to choose an ink for it. Probably a brown ink.

Any luck choosing an ink?  I hope to see it in one of your "mini reviews".👍😀

I do have Waterman Havana Brown from the years before they changed. I have Visconti Sepia, Pelikan Edelstein Smoky Quartz, Montblanc Toffee Brown, Diamine Chocolate and 150th anniversary Espresso, Oster Caffe Crema, J Herbin Cafe des Iles, and Cocoa du Bresil. Oh and a Ferris Wheel Press brown ink I haven’t tried. Also Noodler’s Walnut. I feel like I’ve left something out. But I’m not sure. I don’t consider Herbin Terre de Feu brown.

Well you certainly have enough choices... 😄  That's going to be a tough decision.

😎  What are your criteria going to be?  Shading, sheening, shimmer, base color....

My favorite is shading.

I like shading too. 😄  But I've found it to be very tricky and not consistent across different papers and pens.

@USG Here is a photo of my Mnemosyne notebook in use. It seems different from yours.
I have not noticed feathering. Mine is a 182A from the yellow sheet inside. (My birthday was several days before I wrote this.)

I saw your notebook when I was looking.  It opens from the top instead of the side.  I was considering it but I wanted a B5 and at the time I was looking, the B5s only opened from the side. They both seem to have the same cream colored Maruman paper though... oh well...  it is what it is.. 🤷‍♂️ 🙂

As far as the feathering goes, try some Iroshizuku inks, Ajisai and Asa-Gao, see if you get any feathering.  In the meantime I'll see what else feathers.... but it's not the feathering that bothers me, the color of the paper messes with some of the ink colors.
