I got this pen today

I actually received this pen in Wednesday's mail. Because my mail arrives after bedtime (3rd shift worker here) I unboxed it after work yesterday and flushed out the test ink.

Incredibly generous vendor door prize from Shawn Newton of Newton Pens, whom I met at the Dallas Pen show this past Saturday.

Pink resin with flash, black bands, no clip. Matthew Chen Uranagi grind on a JoWo nib. Shawn included a coordinating fabric sleeve. He packaged the pen in a presentation box, buried it in very eco-minded paper shreds, and shipped it in a sturdy box.

In terms of color I think Pelikan 4001 pink, Herbin Rose Cyclamen or Blue Myosotis would be good matches. The nib writes dry in the obverse and moderately less so in the reverse so I may want a wetter ink than I typically prefer.

ETA I paid up for the Uranagi nib since Shawn had one on hand. He offered me a choice from the standard JoWo range.

@SLinkster, that’s a wonderful prize! Shawn is such a nice man, and so talented. What line does an Uranagi grind give you?

Wonderful, thank you....one way or the other you've save me a bundle.  €125 so beats the hell out of €360.

I want the 755 discontinued nib....we do have a Lamy shop on the Hauptstrasse here in Heidelberg, so I can go there or call, with more chance of having such nibs.

The 755 is reputed by some to be a tad softer. That was the one I tried on the Imporium the two times I checked that nib.

Christmas is coming.

And I was so very impressed by the springy soft ride of that nib.

That’s awesome,  hope you find the softer nib at a good price. Endless Pens in the US sells the Lamy nibs at a discount, around $70, and shipping to Heidelburg is about $16. They also have coupon codes.

Shawn's pens at the show were awesome, and he was friendly and helpful. My friend bought a beautiful pen from him and she's quite happy with it.

The Uranagi is...different, nothing at all like the architect grind nibs or the single Naginata that I have. Obverse writing requires a very light hand as the nib is nearly a needlepoint at the tip. I'm still experimenting to see if I can get and line variation by changing the writing angle and/or the nib rotation. In the reverse it is very smooth and puts down a fairly broad line; again, more experimenting is in order.

I'm tied up for most of the rest of today. Tomorrow I should have some time to become better-acquainted with this pen and nib. Is there a better forum for continuing this particular topic?

B, in the M which I would have ordered was €40:yikes: more than EF, F and B.

M must be super  wished...........I started out going wide B, BB and OB and OBB in vintage. Then got a lot of place holder F nibbed pens which i grew to like, but on the whole grew to like M.

In over the time, many started with M and went narrow and a few when wide,

M became the Rodney Dangerfield of nibs....showing my age more than a bit there, but I don't know who the modern Rodney Dangerfield is.

I never did replace any of the F nibbed pens for wider.

If I got wider in which ever pen, I kept the F instead of selling it which was my original plan..............noobies can be so dumb.

Haha, I had guessed you'd pick B or OB. I only tried a OM once and I did find it to be very mildly oblique.

I sure hope you will enjoy your new Z55, and also hope you'll get a good one at first try.

  • 2 weeks later...

Today a surprise in the mail: the Parker Vector Flowers pen that I had gotten from one of the really good sellers on eBay came!  https://www.ebay.com/itm/385946339678 I had bought the pen the end of JULY, with the understanding that economy shipping was going to take a while (early to mid-October).  Then a couple of weeks ago got a notification from the seller that the pen had been RETURNED to him as "undeliverable"! 🤬  Right after some DHL guy showed up on my porch trying to deliver a small package to an address that didn't exist but which turned out to be for my next door neighbors....

Sent the seller the correct address, but honestly, under the circumstances, didn't expect the pen to arrive before CHRISTMASTIME.

Gonna have to pull a converter out of one of the un-inked Vectors so I can flush it out and start using it.  Not sure what ink to put in it first (the main color on the barrel is sort of a mauve-pink, so thinking maybe blue or turquoise (the flowers themselves are a pale blue).

  That’s a super cute Vector, @inkstainedruth

This Platinum arrived late yesterday, I inked it with a Platinum green cartridge. It’s also flower themed, but hibiscus 🌺, like my childhood garden. I love the bouncy inlaid nibs on these pocket pens.large.IMG_0390.jpeg.d7fb397a5465f2a788fa5fbbb0ed940c.jpeg

Today, I received a very nice Parker 61.  It's in excellent condition.

Original teflon sponge filler?  Those are great -- but you have to be really careful to not put a super-saturated or problem (pigmented/IG/glitter) ink in them.

Thank you. I think it’s a Soft Fine. Bouncy nib, fine line with a bit of line variation.

I got a Sailor Lecoule (not sure what the color is called, but it's a slate blue/grey

I love the Lecoule since discovering them early this year, I now have two - Pale Brown and Lapis Lazuli (which might be the blue you describe).

Will work for pens...
