I hit the order button for a Parker 45 about an hour ago!

My It will be my first older pen, my first Parker and my only tipped italic nib (a fine italic 14k).

So excited. I've been looking for a nicer italic pen since beginning to practice an italic hand a few years ago, with a break or two, picking it up again this past year with

more time to give.  The interest has never waned. I do hope this pen will be "the one".

Nice!!

How are you liking that Waverley nib you got the other day? A friend of mine was talking about getting one and now I am, of course, very curious about them.

Loving it. I have been drawing with it since it got here - it's already on it's third fill of Yama-guri. It's not that it uses a huge amount of ink, the variation is from extra fine to medium, quite subtle, but I have been drawing a lot. It's actually dragged me out if a little art-drought, so I'm very grateful.

Will work for pens...

I agree - the surface of the pen has the texture of that pattern - pretty cool. Another one is on the way with the same finish but also with a clip and beautiful cap band. I've never seen a Lady Skripsert here in Thailand and it is odd that these similar two came up at virtually the same time, and from different sellers.

I almost forgot these two! Montblanc 221 14k extra fine-ish and tortoishell lacque Dunhill 14k made by Montblanc, based on the Noblesse. The Dunhill nib is a bit different - a slightly upturned medium-ish.

My first Montblanc (and quasi-Montblanc). I am interested in the smaller Montblancs, not so much the larger ones, which seem to very much be the most desirable pens here of any make/model. My purchases are all opportunistic - if an interesting pen at a bargain price turns up, I'll buy it.

Be careful with the 221. They have a design fault and are prone to cracking at the vertex of the notch in the grip section. Mine has one and it is an inky finger pen. Montblanc won't service it as there are no more repacement parts for it. It is an amazing nib though. I have a Sterling Silver version of the Dunhill and the upturned nib is a great writer as well.

Oh, gosh, that sounds great! Glad to hear it's inspiring more drawing!

And now I want one too... ;)

Cool! What color? 😄

I don't have an italic - I've never seen one come up for sale here - I would love to find one. I think all my gold Parker 45 nibs are either 10k or 12k.

Same here - was practicing italic a few years ago and stopped. Maybe I'll get back into it, not sure. Fine italics work great for cursive too, I use Pilot's from Plumix/Pluminix and 78g pens, as well as vintage Osmiroid nibs.

Can it really deliver an Extra Fine line to Pilot's or Japanese ‘standards‘? From what I've read, it doesn't come that close to a Pilot EF nib's fineness; and that is what has been stopping me from shopping for one. (I would've bought one from PenSachi the other time otherwise!)

If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Oh, darn it. I just looked and it does have a very small crack there. I didn't notice before. Sometimes there has been a very little bit of ink on the section if I leave overnight lying on its side - that must be why. It has had no other problems other than the occasional inky finger.

Any tips on stabilizing the crack?

It can while drawing with a very light touch, barely the weight of the pen. (And the fine and medium aren't pressing down either, just a change of angle.) The hold is different to a writing grip too - more gentle is the best word I can think of right now. I also like to draw with a brush - and I'm treating the pen like that. It hope that makes sense.

Black, gold, or no tassie?

Oh, and is it an oblique italic?

I love the aesthetics of the Parker 45 - probably my favorite pen looks-wise.

While enjoying your new pens is definitely very important, you should probably know that this site is absolutely packed with enablers... 😅

Yes, it is, and for that I'm grateful. Fountain pens are the most harmless of all addictions. Of course, I haven't started mainlining Montblancs yet.

This is what I meant by changing line weights at different angles while writing and drawing being two different things. In the doodle the pen is lightly held, no pressure, just changing angles to get the line changes and I am seeing EF to M lines. The other EF pens shown for reference. I agree, don't think you would enjoy the Waverley for writing.

Thank you for that! Yeah, I suspect Pilot's Waverly nib just won't give me a fine enough line at any angle, although it may be an interesting nib with which to do (Chinese) calligraphy; but then I already have so many of those to play with, and right now what I really lack is (patience and) practice!

My Hongdian A3 with the black and gold coloured long knife-nib arrived very quickly, albeit with mashed packaging... The pen is smaller than I imaged, slightly smaller than a Pelikan M205, with a tiny nib. The grind is different - see picture (taken through a magnifying glass) and accompanying scribble showing some of the lines possible at different angles. Inked with R&K Sepia it is flowing nicely right out of the box.

The nib is interesting, for sure. Similar to some PenBBS nibs I have started to see online. What is it called? How did you order it?

There's an interesting set of Hongdian nibs with a pretty radically bent fude. Not sure if they work with the A3. (?)  https://www.aliexpress.com/i/4000652075211.html

I could not have found it myself - thankfully I had expert assistance from Smug. If you search AliExpress for "Hongdian A3 metal fountain pen black gold aerospace nib" it should come up. I understand that is the official Hondian store.

Only the black-gold bicolour steel F nib has that grind on the HongDian A3.

Another member of the Handsome Pen Modeling Club arrived: an Inoxcrom 88 Oro. There's a fairly small amount of information available on the web about this pen and I gather that it might be pretty rare.  This was the Spanish company Inoxcrom's flagship pen, I believe circa 1970s, but I am not really sure. My phone's camera doesn't really capture the color of the section & barrel - there is a slight green tint to the dark blue that makes the pen look both classy and distinctive. The nib is similar in style to the old Pilot Custom's except it is flush with the plastic of the section, making me think that perhaps it doesn't extend further into the section but, again, I don't really know. The nib's text is 'upside-down' compared to most pens - a little unusual.

Looking forward to sitting down and putting it to work.
