I got this pen today

Recommended Posts

Yotubisi - eyedropper filled with ink shutoff valve, typical for Japanese pens of its day, rolled gold trim, and a wonderful, easy flexing, semi-flex nib with a wet feed to support it. Simple but fairly nice lacquer work. I will need to replace the seals, as is also typical of vintage Japanese pens with this filling system.

"Yotsubishi".

The exact name of the manufacturer is "Ishi Shouten".

This is a famous "Fountain pen graph"(Kamisama blog)that you already know.

Have you already read it?

If you go to the left of this mark "<" (previous post), there were 8 articles, there may be more.

I have not read them all yet.

https://ameblo.jp/kamisama-samasama/entry-11923449198.html

The "Yotsubishi" is one of the Japanese "family crests" consisting of four diamond shapes stacked on top of each other.

Way back I asked on FPN about a possible pen body for a Manuscript pen. I like Manuscript pens but the body is a real cheap body and does not look good at all. Anyway, Twiss pens offered to make something up for me and 2 pens arrived. Very nice looking pens they were as well.

Sadly though, I could never get the pens to write well but yesterday I decided to give it one more go. I cleaned this pen out, dug a bit in the feed channel and put it together again with a converter. No luck!

So I decided to put in a Manuscript cartridge. It took a bit of jiggling to get it in properly -  I pushed it in but no ink so I wiggled and jiggled it and suddenly - ink flow to the nib again!

I am so glad as Twiss did a really nice job of making these pen bodies. When I get the other one out I will show y'all.

Thanks for the transliteration and the link. I had not seen the Kamisama blog posts on Ishi Shouten. It looks to consist of scans of various Ishi Shouten company materials.

Given the four diamond logo I suppose the word is similar to "Mitsubishi" since that company has three diamonds as their logo, is that correct? And Yotsubishi was a trademark and/or brand name for pens made by Ishi Shouten, correct?

The three diamond shapes of the design, derived from the water chestnut (菱), are Mitsubishi (三菱) for three and Yotsubishi (四菱) for four.

However, the Mitsubishi logo has been redesigned by fusing two different family crests.

I think I have seen a pen with a "four diamonds" mark on the nib and "Yotsubishi" engraved on the nib.

Paul-in SF...I have some well photographed pictures from Pentime, if you don't mind............I hope you have a lot of fun....don't post it. The gold plated piston cap will scratch.

With permission of Pentime, and I still take the worlds worst pictures, but Pentime makes great pictures of the MB Virginia Woolf.

I really love the my eyes only bling of the nib.3zrdy3P.jpg

The clip is a mix of polished and matt gold with a small ruby....this picture is not quite clear on that.

My B&M was having a sale and I spotted this pen at ten paces.

I have an antique backlite jewelry wrist band box for my Woolf.HyqFOAU.jpg

My 'special' pens get special treatment....even a non BCHR great nibbed Osmia....old picture for the Osmia which has ended up elsewhere. Same with the 146. But the Woolf stays in it's home.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Thanks, Bo Bo, those are excellent photos, I especially like the close-up of the nib and part of the cap, it really captures the shape of the resin carving (not sure if it's carved or molded, but parts of it look carved).

Those boxes are a nice idea for special storage that doesn't take up a huge amount of room. Mine came with the box that looks like a book, but the pen is just going to live in the same kind of padded pen-slot storage drawers that my other pens have.

Aha! I also note that the pen is the later model with "Easy Change" nib units. The cartridges may or may not have dried up. The good news is that this Osmiroid model works with standard cartridges and converters. Enjoy it!

A Cross Botanica purple Orchid arrived today. The listing indicated it came with two cartridges. To my happy surprise, one was a converter.

I got a 1950s Kaweco Sport #12 with piston filling mechanism. Celluloid body and cap. Brown ink window.

I chase piston pens, and that Kaweco was from when they were indeed first class. Could well have a semi-flex nib being from that era. The V's give the pen some class.

One can chase only so many brands, and for Kaweco, I only have a Dia.

I think these are pretty cool - not enough to enable me to buy an i-something, but so much nicer than the usual offerings.

.l really like it. I can use it to reply here in the text box on my iPad. I have to write quickly.

I don't use a traditional computer, so this helps cut down on glass keyboard typos.
